Godwin's Law is an internet classic, but it's really a derivative of the earlier described (from the 50's) reductio ad Hitlerum. Which I think also has a funnier name.

I opened this thread expecting comments about how Johnny Dawkins was causing a sharp drop in donations to the AD, and all I found was a two page discussion about how much it costs to run a golf course (or something, I sort of stopped reading). Can the title of this thread be changed or amended or something?

There must be a corollary to Godwin's law that states that "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler, or the invoking of Godwin's law, in order to head off comparisons involving Nazis or Hitler, approaches 1"
We'll call it the Cardboard corollary to Godwin's law.

Please. John Brown was long dead by the time the Civil War started. Besides, doesn't that fly in the face of Southerners' other BS that the war wasn't about slavery. (Until you read the actual Articles of Secession).

Please. John Brown was long dead by the time the Civil War started. Besides, doesn't that fly in the face of Southerners' other BS that the war wasn't about slavery. (Until you read the actual Articles of Secession).

I sat next to a Professor of American History at the University of Glasgow at a wedding a few years ago and he refused to let go of his solemn belief that the Civil War was all due to economics and nothing to slavery. He was an idiot.
PS-now it is true that if you traffic in human beings, ir is possible that this trafficking can be considered a subset of "economics," but if you have a conscience, you know better.
