Anthony Brown most underrated in draft?
06-24-2015, 08:59 PM
I won't be surprised if he goes late in the first round. Almost every mock draft I've seen has him getting picked somewhere in the 30 to 40 range.
The bigger question is whether or not Chasson Randle gets picked. I wouldn't bet on it, but I wouldn't have bet on Josh Huestis getting picked last year either.

Pro: Brown isn't being picked to go earlyish as part of a sign-and-stash deal.
Con: A lot of Brown's 3pt makes are not NBA-range. One might guess that if he had that kind of range, he would have made more from NBA-range, right? Isn't there a significant-enough difference between shooting well from the college arc and shooting well from the professional arc?

Yes 2 feet (actually 1'9" but I'm not an engineer so...) is a big difference at that range.
I think Brown goes early second round because he really does play both ends of the floor (when healthy). But I'm not sure a lot of aspects of his game are NBA-ready and I see a substantial risk that he doesn't make a roster unless multiple aspects develop over the summer.

The distance difference isn't so pronounced at the wings, so there's hope yet. But yeah, Brown needs to be more than just a potential deadeye shooter. Here's hoping his teachability didn't end with Dawkins.

Given how little I think of Dawkins as a teacher/developer, I think Brown has significant upside but he also has a ways to go for his game to be NBA-ready. It is that lack of readiness tha tleads me to think he will not be drafted in the first round.

Brown went to the Lakers with the 34th pick (4th pick in the second round). Fingers are crossed for Randle.

Sounds about right for Brown I hope it works out for him with the Lakers.
I don't see Randle being drafted nor do I see him making an NBA roster soon or in the future. He's too small to be an effective scoring guard (and defender), and he's not a good enough ball-handler to be a point guard. And I know some of you are going to reply with examples like Dwayne Wade, but those are rare exceptions. If you want to be a successful non-point guard in the NBA you need to be 6'5"+
I think he will have a nice career in Europe or Asia where a 6'2"-6'3" scoring guard can be successful.

Well Randle wasn't drafted and I'm sad. He gave so much to us.Â
Another problem is this could hurt recruiting when our all time leading scorer isn't drafted.Â

Louis Williams is the same size as Randle, has no PG skills, a worse shot, and has carved out a fantastic career for himself. I think Randle has a great chance at making a roster. Lots of scrubs drafted in round 2 tonight. The film on the guy from India was comical.

I'm not surprised Randle wasn't drafted, but it is strange the highest scorer of all time wasn't drafted. Whatever happened to the C.al gut who won mvp over LF?

Great player for the college game but just doesn't have the size to be a scorer in the NBA. But if I'm a recruit who wants to play in the NBA and I'm under 6'4", I do have to question why a guy who played PG for 15 years in the NBA hasn't developed a single PG who's been drafted.

Plenty of 6'3" guards and shorter (who are mostly scorers) have careers in the NBA. What a strange argument.
