In Tour vernacular Saturday is "Moving Day".  Our hero, Patrick Rodgers, apparently hired a fleet of vans and made a BIG move!  He shot 63 today, which will probably not result in a top five position by the end of the day, but it will put him on the second page of the leader board when play begins tomorrow.  But what a day he had!  Seven birdies and no holes over par!  Sensational day.  It's tough to follow such a round with another the very next day.  Although Louis Oosterhuis did it at Chambers Bay three days in a row.  Patrick Rodgers is certainly capable.

Update:  They just interviewed Rodgers for his stunning round.  I had not realized that this is his third time participating in this tournament.  The first time was as an amateur, and it was also the venue for his pro debut.  Nice interview.  He is very soft-spoken.  Could barely hear him, even with the volume up and very little traffic in our pro shop.

Patrick does speak softly, but carries a big stick:  He ranked 6th on the tour for driving distance.

Patrick moved up 51 spots (now that's moving!) and finished in a tie for eighth.  He was nine strokes behind the leader as the day started and will start the day tomorrow only four back.  Pretty exciting for him.  I hope he can put his signature on the day.  Hulk, you're right, though.  It would appear that he still has some work to do on putting and chipping; really on all the proximate green activity.

With that great round yesterday, young Mr. Rodgers has also put himself in position for an invitation to The (British) Open at St. Andrews in a couple of weeks.  The leading 4 players who are not already exempt and who finish in the top 12 (and ties) at the Travelers gain entry.  As of Saturday there were only 3 non-exempt players above Rodgers (Harman, DeLaet and Stroud).  I'm not sure how they handle ties for the 4th slot (as of Saturday there 5 non-exmpt guys ties with Rodgers at -8).
