Pretty impressive for Justin Herbert. And yes, Benn Burr-Kirven made this team too!

"The 26 members on the first team have an average GPA of 3.95."

Well, we know why there are no Weenies on here!

And do we expect football players at Stanford to basically ace every single one of their classes? At Stanford???
There would be plenty of Gators... if we still had a team. Plenty of “A’s” in the PE Dept.

I just read in a tweet where Burr-Kirven yesterday found the cure for cancer, built a perpetual motion machine, and got all parties in the Middle East to sign a peace treaty.  Also, it appears that all other members of the UW football team have decided to skip the Rose Bowl in order to prepare for the NFL draft, so it was announced that Burr-Kirven will be playing all 22 positions [as well as handling the punting and place-kicking].  After the announcement, betting moved strongly in favor of UW.

Boy, did Shaw screw up in not getting that guy...
In an era of rampant grade inflation and diminished standards, when someone majoring in criminal justice from Southern Alabama University makes the Academic All-American list and not a single student from Stanford or Cal does, I wonder whether there's even any point to having such an honor anymore.

BTW - here's an interesting recent counter-argument against fetishizing those all-A students.

If what you are saying is the posts about how we screwed the pooch by not recruiting BBK, and the deduction from that saying Shaw is a lazy recruiter got a bit much, I definitely agree with you.

Adam Grant gets it.

Doesn't surprise me.  BBK had a very strong academic record and was offered by Northwestern, Harvard and Princeton.

He didn't do any of those things.  But he did finish first team All America AP.

He was also Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the year.  Fourth in the country in solo tackles.   Scout.com had ranked him the #43 Mike linebacker prospect in the country his senior year, #55 by ESPN.  Did a 6.75 on the three cone drill, fifth on the UW team.  MaxPreps All NorCal play of the year, DIII California player of the year.  And oh yeah, he's very, very fast.  Dante Pettis was 0.2 mph faster than him:

You're right.  We should have had him.

I don't think anybody disagrees with that. Hey, we made a mistake not offering him. Let's stop flagellating ourselves about that and move on.
That's one of the things I love about the CardBoard.  Rest assured there will be no horses left unbeaten!
