Half Time Stanford 1 Clemson 0

Jacob Rayburn sat down with David Shaw and asked some of the questions that we as fans might want to ask. In two main areas, recruiting and assistant coaches, he seems likely to make no significant changes.

The Score Prediction was such a hit, how about guessing who's headed out the door.
Never hurts to make light of a dark situation--might be fun and entertaining. I could post a poll, but they're only limited to 10.

I didn't realize that most minor league baseball players make about $8000 a season, which sometimes is not even enough to cover their costs.
With the low odds of making the majors and the ridiculous-crazy money only a few players earn, some minor leaguers are signing contracts with each other to pool their potential MLB earnings.
The standard contract is to contribute nothing before $1.6 million of MLB salary, then 10% of everything above that up to a max contribution of $20 million.
I wonder how long it'll be before this filters down to the collegiate level.

3rd defensive starter to enter the portal. What is going on?

I find the CardBoard fun reading. There are so many interesting threads, full of insights, facts and opinions. Let me humbly attempt to add my own. I’m going way out on a limb and predict the WBB team will enter the NCAA Tournament with 4 losses.
How will it happen? Here’s a possible scenario. The PAC-12 is loaded with excellent teams this year. On a given night, anybody can beat anybody. We play Oregon and Oregon State twice each for a total of 4 games. That’s brutal facing these two excellent teams back-to-back, twice. Assuming we do well in the PAC-12 Tournament, we are likely to meet one of them again. I expect we will lose 2 of 5.
Another loss is likely to come right after an OU-OSU weekend. One game I have circled on the calendar is with Arizona on 2/28. We will be at risk of focusing so much on OU-OSU that we will be spent after those games. We will be set up for someone like Aari McDonald to have a career night. Or we beat both OU-OSU and then relax. That’s possibly what happened tonight when “giant killer” Louisville lost to a good but unranked Ohio State team.
The last loss will probably be unexpected. We lose to some team we should beat. That happened with unranked Gonzaga last year, when it appeared they wanted it more than we did. Or it could be like the Utah game last year. Or we could be ice cold shooting, let the other team hang around, they get hot and suddenly come back into contention, like Cal Baptist. There’s all sorts of ways to get tripped-up.
Being ranked #1 has its disadvantages. We have the biggest bullseye pinned to our back. Other teams will give us their best shot. Cal has started well but doesn’t look to be as strong as us. As Tara has said, that will allow other teams to focus more on Stanford when we travel with Cal. And then there’s the wild card of injuries to add to the mix.
That’s my expectation from way out here on a limb. And will someone please put a serving of crow in the freezer for 3/8 at the end of the PAC-12 Tournament. We have an excellent team and it will be wonderful if we do better. Go Cardinal!

Ohio State just knocked off Louisville and looked pretty darned good doing it, too.

I wanted to start a thread on this because I have some questions. First, exactly how does it work? My understanding is if you have graduated in four years and have a year left of eligibility you are free to transfer into a graduate program. Is that correct? Second, am I correct in assuming that you have to be accepted by that school into a graduate program in order to transfer to that school. Can a player instead of going for an advanced degree in that fifth year, simply stay at the school the fifth year and take more units even though he’s earned enough units to have graduated? In other words stay in the undergraduate program and simply take more classes?
It seems to me that if my assumption about how this works that this portal system doesn’t work very well for Stanford. Pretty unlikely many players from other schools are going to be accepted into a Stanford graduate program. Also somewhat likely that some of the players who are in their 5th year who graduated at Stanford will not be able to get into Stanford graduate program.
As with everything having to do with Stanford football the assumption is this is Shaw’s fault. But it could be a whole host of factors. Maybe they can’t get in to the Stanford graduate program? Maybe they simply want to try a different experience? On the other hand maybe it’s the program. But does anybody actually have any evidence or any of that? Lotta pissing in the wind going on. But if you have evidence by all means lay it out there. I’d love to see it.

Saw it flash on the screen; deal runs through 2024.
