I agree with stupac, that wasn't a broken play. Herbert was going to throw or run it wide, they just didnt execute the playfake well.

On that catch, the receiver went out of bounds and the clock ran. When does it stop on oob, below 2 minutes?

I mean it's possible, of course. But faking a miscommunication to the running back didn't really buy the Ducks anything; the key was the run/pass option, and I suppose it's possible that it was always meant to be that. But the misplay allowed our defense to have a bunch of guys on that side of the field. The big problem is that they all shaded Herbert and nobody covered the receiver.
