For what it is worth, the UConn fans on the Boneyard are generally giving Stanford a slight edge.
I've thought about this quite a bit and reflected on my own teenage daughter who had to make a tough college choice. I'm inclined to agree with Griffins78. Here is what I believe:
Haley probably hasn't made up her mind yet.
She is a very intelligent kid who is weighing all her options. She just got home from visiting Oregon, must have plunged right back into her school schedule, and has hardly had a moment to think. She not only would have had her normal classes which are no doubt challenging at Mitty (especially as she tries to keep up with her school work while traveling almost every weekend across the country,) she had a scrimmage last night and has a game tonight (Menlo.) If I were her parent I would have advised her to put the decision out of her mind for the week, and then sit down and talk it out this weekend once she is done with her immediate school commitments.
Not only would this be the reasonable and responsible thing to do, it also would show respect to Oregon to take more than a single day to think about that program before announcing a decision.
Something tells me that if this is what is happening, it shows a level of responsibility, courtesy, and forethought.
The alternative is to believe that she made up her mind after visiting UConn, that the delay of the announcement to Monday was part of some ESPN plot to create a bigger splash, or a coordination of an announcement with another UConn recruit (Boston--as a couple of Boneyard fans think.) I find those theories not very plausible. They would portray a less mature and thoughtful individual than Haley, by all reports, appears to be.
For these reasons I'm not yet persuaded by any of the tea-leaf reading. The fact that Stanford announced its 3 commits without Haley means nothing. That was probably a firm date set long in advance by Athletics, and Haley just hasn't decided yet. By the same token, the fact that Haley has "liked" the twitter commits of each of those 3 Stanford commits also means nothing. She has met them in various contexts and probably genuinely likes them and genuinely likes Stanford--which doesn't necessarily mean she has made up her mind.
In short, we don't know what she will decide because she hasn't decided. And she's probably trying not to think too much about it until the weekend.
So...Haley should know that if she comes to Stanford the community here will embrace her with open arms. But we also need to keep perspective and realize that this is a deeply personal, life-changing decision that is best made privately, between a teenager and her family.
