I walked in hoping we didn't get run out of our building. I have Cristobal to thank for that not happening. I think Oregon could have just run between the tackles the entire second half and won by two scores, certainly the entire fourth quarter.

I probably don't agree with the two scores. Remember, their best RB was out injured. BUT, for sure if they had done that we wouldn't have had anywhere near enough time remaining to pull it out. Cristobal was our biggest asset.

I suspect the absence of Oregon's off coordinator because of sickness hurt their play calling at the end of the game. Thank goodness. Cristobal can't hide, however. Everyone was shocked by the pass plays in the waning moments of the 4th. Seems like he would have been in charge of strategy at that point.

thanks for posting the replay. not only was the helmet-to-helmet targeting, but Thibodeaux also hit tanner mckee in the face with his forearm just before connecting with his helmet. he was clearly head-hunting. plus, there was another roughing the passer shortly afterwards. sure looks like oregon was trying hard to take mckee out of the game.

#11 was absolutely targeting on the first play. My general feeling was that the Duck players were playing dirty throughout.  Ducks had 10 penalties for 99 yards, not including penalties that were refused.

I don’t like the fact that a defender can run into a kicker on a PAT with impunity – essentially.

Tremayne’s foot injury was one of the most gruesome I’ve ever seen.

I couldn’t tell who was more sympathetic to the Ducks, the announcers or the referees.  I do know that the post-game media (I’m looking at you, USA Today) thinks the referees heavily favored Stanford.

That was a great Wildcat.  Either the Ducks were mortally surprised, or we should bring out that play more often.

Well they clearly picked on Toomer several times on that out pattern, so I suppose pushing the WR out of bounds after a catch counts as a “tackle.”

I think our most legitimate shot at a national title was in 2015.  The season-opening loss to Northwestern gave us zero margin for error; and the Ducks put the nail in our coffin when we got our second loss.  In the end, we landed at 6th in the CFP rankings, just behind Iowa, who we then demolished in the Rose Bowl.  That team, which was peaking toward the end of the season (apart from the loss to the Ducks at home), might have made some waves in the CFP.  And the way McCaffrey, Hogan and Co. dismantled Iowa, they should arguably have been in the CFP ahead of Michigan State, which got blown out by Alabama in the first game.  So the Ducks killed our hopes that year.

- When McKee is off he tends to miss high. That seems very dangerous, though he hasn't thrown an interception yet.

- The one clock management thing at the end was that Stanford probably should have used their last TO after West inexplicably slid down on his one play. However, the team was quite quick on getting McKee in and the getting the next play off - maybe 16 seconds or so.

- I understand (but wouldn't agree with) Oregon throwing the pass on second and 18 near the end. It should have been a safe pass, Stanford wouldn't be expecting it, and Oregon needed one more first down to seal the game.

- Oregon's real clock mismanagement on that drive was early on. They were snapping the ball with 20, 15 seconds left on the clock over the course of getting their first couple of first downs.

-The argument from Rod Gilmore as to why the holding shouldn't have been called on the late fourth down play in the end zone seemed to be because it wasn't called on second down play in the end zone. Both were close, the fourth down case slightly clearer.

- It's hard to understand how the fumble recovery towards the end of the first half was overturned on review. Couldn't see the critical event in any of the views shown on the broadcast, nor a series of events one could stitch together between views. From the replays I watched I would characterize the play as more likely than not a true fumble.

- As noted in the thread, Stanford also got robbed on the early run play by Jones. However, I don't think that is a reviewable call and given how the play unfolded I understand why the refs would call the play dead.

- It looks like we're facing a situation this year where good Stanford is quite good and can play with anyone on the schedule, whereas bad Stanford can probably lose to just about anyone on the schedule. At some level that's always true, but it seems more extreme right now.

Stanford probably loses, arguably, their best four DL position players after this year. I guess possibly Pakola returns and Armitage develops but they could be as thin as ever next year.
