Rose Bowl tickets are 3X as expensive as any other bowl game -

Holy crap:

Sounds like we could be handily outnumbered again. Hopefully the ticket office does a better job only giving our allotment to Stanford fans this time...

the relatively low prices for the semi-final games are interesting, I wonder how many people would travel to both a semi-final and final game. Given the timing and expense are people holding back from buying semi-final tickets?

Iowa last appeared in the Rose Bowl since in 1991. That's a 25 year gap. To put that in perspective Stanford's 1972 to 2000 gap was "only" 28 years.
Ticket prices might fall, but if you are trying to plan a trip out of Iowa with flights, hotels, meals, and a car then a few hundred dollars extra per game ticket is probably not that big of a deal. If I am going to spend $2000 or $3000 per person getting my family to Pasadena I don't think I bank on the ticket prices falling later in the process by $100 or whatever. Secure the whole thing now. Peace of mind and all.

I had given this some thought, and I would only be able to justify one trip unless one of the games was within driving distance (Levi's is hosting the NCG sometime soon-ish, right?). So that could put a damper on prices. It might also be that perennial contenders have less excitement than perennial afterthoughts that finally break through.

There's a reason that, whenever somebody says "Hey, it's SCIENCE!!" you should assume they're wrong. You want proof?
Another link on the SBNation page is to an article purporting to rank SCIENTIFICALLY the "watchability" of all of the bowl games:
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2015/12/7/9860680/bowl-game-rankings-2015-2016-college-football-playoff
You don't need to bother looking for the Rose Bowl in the Top 5 in any category...or, for that matter, in the top 15 overall, and but for the unscientific "adjustment" factor, it wouldn't even be in the top 20, ranking well behind... the Chicken Bowl's UCLA v. Nebraska [#12] matchup, among other games. UNC v. Baylor is "scientifically" rated at #6. I obviously must have been watching a different Baylor team last Saturday and a different UCLA team 2 weeks ago on TV.
Of course, the 3X ticket premium for the Rose Bowl certainly correlates well with its relative unwatchability.Â
But, hey, ... it's SCIENCE!

Good lord you freaked me out I thought you were talking about face value. On that front the Rose Bowl is among the LEAST expensive of the NY6 games.
I also think this is biased because my understanding is that the Rose Bowl gives a larger proportion of tickets to the schools than other games so the supply is more limited and tickets are only in the hands of the corporate fatcats and big donors who get the same seats every year.
Give it 2-3 weeks for all the schools' season ticket holders & alumni to get their tickets and then have another look. IIRC, in the week leading up the RB there were many seats on StubHub at or below face value. maybe not between the goal lines, but certainly in the endzones.

According to a thread on reddit Iowa's ticket office has received requests for 44,000 tickets. Their allotment is 22,000. Supposedly they've reached out to us to see about extras. I imagine the reply was something along the lines of "lol".

Well thanks for the info. I am worried that additional 22k fans will bump the ticket prices that are on the market. I will put my name on the lottery when they announce it.Â

Guys -
C'mon. This is not the Belk Bowl or the Camellia Bowl (two games I doubt you can even name what state they are played in.) This is
the Rose Bowl - the Granddaddy of them all, the most beautiful commodity to be associated with a post season game. It always has and always will be broadcast on a major network - ABC. It's free.
Though it doesn't matter to me. I will be there on the sunny side, as I was in 2000, 2013, 2014.

Stanford seems to think it will be on ABC:
http://www.gostanford.com/SportSelect.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=30600&SPID=127013&SPSID=749927
However, ESPN seems to think they are televising it:

Of course they are the same corporate entity.

I checked. You are correct. I apologize.Â
I went to the introduction of David Shaw at the Claremont Country Club in 2011 when he was named the new coach. Rod Gilmore was the moderator, and he made the more entertaining comments after Shaw left. He began by saying that ESPN (his employer!) knew that they can only show so many strongest-man contests, and that a playoff was inevitable because ESPN knew that was $1 billion in revenue out on the table. He remarked that the most powerful man on the field is the guy who lets officials know when the cameras are back live. Count me in as an old-timer who watched Jim Plunkett on NBC in 1971 with Curt Gowdy doing the play by play. I guess I have to accept that ESPN really does control college football now.

I really, really hope it's on ABC. Getting ESPN onto my TV is a pain in the ass thanks to their horrible, buggy, constantly freezing roku app.
