If Henry wins, he would be the first JUNIOR RB to win Voldemort since Rashan Salaam in 1994!
I don't think a Soph RB has ever wo. So if CMac doesn't win it's not surprising because he would do something unprecedented in a year there were a couple other REALLY good players in Watson and Henry, who did equally impressive things.
Yes, I am preparing myself for Henry to win. It will be CMac's to lose in 20016, and he plays a position where he can make a lot of highlight reel plays.

Until recently no red-shirt freshman had ever won. And no one had ever gained over 3500 APY. Ever.

And lose it he will. Not because he'll deserve to lose it, mind you, but because some SEC team (it honestly doesn't matter which) will have a good running back, or one of the playoff teams will have had a QB that had a great year. Or something else will happen.
Basically, I've come to the conclusion that in order for a Stanford player to win, it can't even be remotely close. So, if Christian wants to win, I think he needs to run for twice as many yards as the next-best RB in college football. And add 1,000 receiving yards, too. And, like, 15 kickoff return TDs. Plus 10 more TDs on halfback passes. If the historic year he had this year doesn't move the needle versus a good Southern running back, then I give up.Â
I'm interested to see how many Southern voters even have McCaffrey on the ballot. My guess is not many.Â

I think if McCaffrey even stole 10 more TDs from Remound, it wouldn't even be a question.Â
He would have near identical stats as Henry, plus receiving yards+TDs, plus kickoff yards+TDs, plus 2 passing touchdowns.
I think the #1 reason it's close is because McC's TD count is "low."

Colorado Tree, it's not "remotely close" this year. Christian would be a landslide winner if he were playing for any SEC team (or maybe even any Big 10 team). It's a bad joke if CM is denied the Voldemort, which is what I expect.
I don't know if C-Mac will be pissed, but I will be (at all those effing lazy, clueless, and/or provincially myopic voters). Again, this shouldn't even be that close.

I'm with you, teejers. He would win in a landslide if he played for a Power 5 team east of the Rocky Mountains (or Notre Dame).Â
I'm getting really sick of hearing everyone say CMac
should win it, but won't.Â
CMac was remarkably healthy this year, played behind a great line, against a tough schedule on a team that won their conference championship and was oh so close to making the CFP. He did something no one else had done in beating Sanders' record. This in on way discounts CMac's abilities, but I have my doubts that he'll be able to duplicate the feat next year, when he's set the bar so high. The line will be different, the QB will different, the schedule is just as tough but with more games on the road, the team may not do as well and he may not be as healthy. This is his year to win it -- and he should, if the voters have any credibility whatsoever.

Mac's stats this year--yards per play and per game, rushing and receiving--were basically identical. I don't think taking away one home and adding one road game will have any effect on his numbers, and it would be negligble anyway, even without that. It's just one game.

If McCaffrey comes in second this year and is the early favorite next year, I think it'll be similar to when that happened with Luck. ESPN and other media folks will get bored with McCaffrey partway through the season and find a new flavor of the month to hype.

Eh, that didn't happen with Mariota. Luck's problem was that he had a worse year in 2011 than he did in 2010, so it was easier to give it to someone else. Regardless of what happens McCaffrey will be a frontrunner, so he'll need to put up better numbers next year. Which doesn't seem completely far-fetched to me.

McCaffrey will be a year older, but replacing Murphy and Garnett with equal quality isn't a given.

I tend to agree. And I think it's because a pretty good-sized chunk of the those voting don't buy into, or necessarily want Stanford to succeed.
Let me explain. I have a good friend of Hispanic descent. She has a Master's in Library Science, she runs a research organization and she's very successful. She comes from a large family, she's one of eight kids. When she and her siblings visit her parents' house on the holidays, her parents are...polite. Nice, but polite. Her seven brother and sisters have blue-collar jobs that her parents consider to be more traditional...and they are greeted very warmly, and the parents socialize with them...not so much with my friend. And she understands, she doesn't fit what her parents consider to be a traditional mold.
Same with the Voldemort voters, I suspect. it seems to me that there is a degree of comfort in voting for candidates from traditional programs. There are Voldemort "clusters" at schools like U$C (6), Oklahoma (5), Ohio State (7) and Noter Dame (7), the traditional powers; and Michigan, Nebraska, Auburn, Army, Florida and Florida State have three each. Western schools other than USC have no more than one...Stanford, Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State each have one, and the Washington, Utah and Arizona schools have none..
The Pac 12 is foreign and remote for most of them. No one east of the Rockies really see their games, and when they do, their natural preference is the local state school, the local football factory, etc. Stanford is an anomaly for them. Great team that never gets the benefit of the doubt, not with referees, not with Voldemort voters. Yes, they have incredible player after incredible player, and they'll finish in the top two or three, but at the end of the day, it will go to someone from a football factory. Oregon, Florida State, Texas A&M, Baylor, Oklahoma, Auburn, Alabama. And if the candidate is a little bit greasy, we'll just look the other way. Even better if he or his fan base is limited to a monosyllabic vocabulary.

Except that for all the hype, Alabama has exactly as many Voldemort trophy winners as Stanford: 1 (Mark Ingram). That is shocking.

If Leonard Fournette has a season like Henry, and CMAC repeats his incredible year, Fournette probably wins the Voldemort. Hope I'm wrong, but doubt it.

Speaking of #SECbias...
If Conner, Williams, Carry, or Ball didn't merit finishing higher than fourth for the Voldemort despite similar stats to Henry, what exactly has Henry done to deserve it? Williams finishing 4th in 2013 despite breaking 2000 yards, gaining almost 1/4 of a yard more per carry than Henry, and Kadeem Carey in 2012 getting no votes are both travesties in a relative sense.

None of them played for contenders. That said, I've never really understood Henry's candidacy, it always seemed like one of those "Well, there's no one better..." but that's clearly not true.

2011 Wisconsin team was the BigTen champs at 11-2 and Rose Bowl bound (where they lost to Oregon).
The teams for the other RB's listed not so much.

There may be an assumption that Christian will have one or two more chances. But I doubt he will have another year quite this good. Too many changes to the team and a less favorable schedule await next year. This is his best chance.Â
