Unflipping believable. Any slight credibility this travesty of a playoff had is gone. I hope Clemson beats Bama by 50.

I posted this comment in the other thread after the announcement: I don't think Ole Miss, Mississippi State or Arkansas would be in the playoff with Alabama's resume. The power of Alabama.

They jumped 2 conference champions to gift Sabin. This is bad for college football.

I surprised, but not stunned I guess. All the talk about tough schedules and conference championships is just that. Talk. And BS talk at that.
Condi would not have let it happen.

I kid you not, one of the ESPN Radio guys last night said, "Booger dug deep for that fact."Â He immediately realized what he had said and everybody laughed.

"Nugget" would have been better.

Two conference champions who played 9 game conference schedules, and won conference championship games.

The CFP committee has lowered itself to the level of H-word voters. I can't imagine what they saw from Alabama's body of work that made them "a clear number 4" - not a single victory over a Top 15 team and only 2 games against the Top 25.
At least now the B1G knows how the Pac-12 has felt since year one of this joke.

I'm happy about all this chaos and bias because I think it further exposes how ridiculous the pairings can be. I feel this adds further fuel to the move to an 8-team playoff (which I realize some of you don't like, but I do).

I like an 8 team playoff. Let's do it.

This is indeed a bad joke. It may be that Alabama is a very good team that should have a chance at the title. However, the idea that they earned the right to be one of the four top contenders is absurd. Even if one thinks they are the fourth-best team in the country, they didn't prove it. Wisconsin has the same kind of resume. They played a good team and lost in a close game. Why not them? This really proves that we need a 8 team playoff to have any chance that the real best team in the land is in the mix. It may be Alabama. I don't think so, but maybe others do. 8 teams allows them a chance without excluding tOSU, who, although I despise them, had a better resume. 5 conference champions plus 3 chosen by a committee ensures tOSU as a conference champion and Alabama as an "at large" team a chance. It also allows USC a shot.

My solution to this travishamockery is an 8-team playoff with a twist. Ive seen many proposals for 5+3; the Power5 conference champions plus 3 at-large, probably selected by the same morons who picked Alabama.
Alabama should not be, in any shape or form, playing for a national championship. Not by beating exactly one team of semi-note (LSU). Not by getting handled in the most important game of the year and sitting at home to watch your handler get handled a week later.
The twist is to prevent the Alabama getaway by limiting playoff participants to conference champions and limit the playoff to eight conferences through annual conference relegation. Come this time of year, each conference is assigned one of two statuses: IN or OUT. Id use a methodology that looks at strength of aggregate non-conference schedules and results. Something like Colley.
This years JTCFB:
1. Clemson (ACC)
2. Oklahoma (Big XII)
3. Georgia (SEC)
4. Southern California (Pac12)
5. Ohio State (Big10)
6. UCF (AAC)
7. Boise State (MWC)
8. Alabama (Sun Belt - Bama joined immediately after losing the Iron Bowl)
This makes the conference games critical and non-conference games important. Conference-wide body bagging is risky.
Message to Army, BYU and ND: join a conference or watch from the sideline.

Did Herbstreit say that the B1G champ should be thanking ESPN for pimping Alabama?

Is it just me, or is there something really strange about having 4 southern teams in the playoff?
I have never really cared all that much about the playoffs, and now I care even less. I do regret that we will not be playing on New Year's Day.
One of the reasons our loss to SC did not bother me as much as it might is that we were not playing for a chance to go play a Big 10 team at the Rose Bowl. I think this fiasco reinforces my emotional traditionalism.Â

RIGGED! The Sabanite Cult at ESPN sqeezed the Committee. Two teams from SEC, one that did not win their division, are in the CFP?? Outrageous. Just tell us again that Saban has an Immunity Idol, and BAMA gets an invite every year. B1G fans should organize a Viewers Boycott on the Playoff !!! Travesty. B1G fans start burning tires at ESPN HQ.
Although, USC vs OHST in Cotton will get watched. Ditto PNST vs WASH in Fiesta.Â
We have an 8 team Tourney already (or 12 teams) -- the Conf Champ games, which should matter MORE! BAMA didn't win their division -- OUT! It's a NATIONAL Playoff, not an NFL scouts combine. That means you don't undo conf play by picking two teams from the same conf. This is like 2011 when ESPN manipulated the computers to get a BAMA vs LSU rematch (shafting #3 OKST, also at 11-1, who we got in Fiesta). The Rematch stunk as a game (21-0, BAMA). They gave Saban another one.
Back in 2003, U$C (Carrol), LSU (Saban), and OKLA (Stoops) each finished with one loss. U$C was ranked #1 by both human polls (Coaches, AP), but Saban and Stoops got the BCS Title game on computer ranking mischief (supervised by ESPN, which wanted the SEC TV market that CBS controlled).
Troyens won the Rose Bowl (28-14, over #4 MICH), and then Natl champ voting was split between Saban and Carrol. Saban got the BCS-extra mustard crown, and U$C got the #1 ranking in the final AP poll.Â

Long drive tonight and listened to a ton of commentary. The best was a quote from the president of the CFP. He stated the SC wasn't considered for the playoff as they had no marquee wins. Seriously? Who the hell did Bama beat? Why the ESPN interviewer didn't push him on that, I'll never know.
