The Giants -
BobK - 05-31-2018
With few posts these recent days time to talk Baseball by the bay
The Giants are 4 games under 500 and just 4 games out of first. Bum due to start Tuesday. That former ND wide receiver not hurt it seem good or whatever
Pence back soon or ??? Giants must decide this week. If back I say cut Jackson. Be done. If Slater had CF ability he would have been playing CF in Sacramento the past year plus.
Hernandez, Belt and the old man LOL. Crawford hitting 300 and Posey at 299
We shall put the term June swoon to an end

Amazing that the Giants could only win two games on this last road trip and still be only four games out of first. Now, there are returning starters coming back with "Bum" to act as a mainstay in the rotation of kids and wannabes. I really do not care if that former domer tight end returns. He has been lit up time and time again this year. Notwithstanding his poor fielding support, I thought Pudge's kid, Derek, looks like a comer. He is going to get a start at home this next week so will be interesting to watch. Hell, even if the Gigantes are losing, Crawford is worth the price of admission by himself.
I am thinking as I babble on, WHEN IS FOOTBALL COMING BACK?

While it looks like the team might do better than was expected, they are clearly inferior to most of the teams they have to beat out to make the playoffs. The NL West stinks, but Atlanta, Philly, Chicago, STL, Pitt, are all superior teams.
Given the weak farm system and the reality that even with Bumgarner, the Giants are likely no better than the 10th best NL team, I'm still of the belief they should trade him in a couple months, and maybe Cueto, if he comes back and pitches well before trade deadline.
I'm not real down for playing the season, maybe finishing .500-ish and missing the playoffs with Bumgarner on the squad.

Crawford one of the best fielding shortstops of all time. Up there with Smith, Omar and the extremely underrated Bellanger. Amazed that he was able to adjust at his age, hope it continues.
The Domer has two problems. Control, which was a strength, has deserted him. Command, which he’s never really had, makes him a perennial non winner.
Will be an interesting last two thirds. Tomlinson will almost certianly be optioned. Jackson gives them nothing and Blanco may go. They need to jettison Gerrin and option Blach when Bum, Melncon and Cueto return. Blach throws beach ball fastballs and will need to develope a new pitch to be successful. Perhaps he can learn at Sacto or Richmond. And what about Hansen who may be the real thing.
Gotta draft a catcher of the future.

Good post Phogge, I agree. Especially about Blach.
Giants wasted such an opportunity to get way ahead of LA.
What the heck happened to ‘Zona? They had the best record in the league after 3-4 weeks and have been dropping like a rock ever since.

Panik (for sure) and Pence and Melancon (probably) will be back tomorrow. Bumgarner next Tuesday and Hanson soon thereafter.

Remember, they only have to beat out AZ, LA, SD and Colorado to qualify for the post season. They don’t need a better record than anyone else. And you never know how things will go once the playoffs start...

I saw a mock draft where the Giants took a catcher at No. 2 to replace Posey in the future.

Bart it is.... Following the Tigers selection of Mize, SF chose Joey Bart....

Very pleased with Bart. Safe pick, but also a super talented guy. Catchers who can hit are quite rare. Apparently he called all the pitches for GT, pretty incredible in college baseball. I'm petrified to take a Pitcher with my #2 pick given their injury histories.

G-men claw their way back to .500 and Bumgarner back on the mound tonight. More drinks for Bob!
Cheers,

Wow, Crawford was hitting .196 on April 30. He then hit .412 for May, and is 7-14 so far in June, raising his BA to .320. That's amazing.

This team is bipolar! Glad to have MadBum back.
RE: The Giants -

Last night was a pretty important game, at home, and they pooched it. Col and LA had already won, but SF had a chance to pick up a game against AZ and still stay ahead of LA. MadBum with a nice effort but it’s hard to pitch for this team because you either get a bunch of runs off mediocre pitchers or no run support when the other pitcher is on.
And they had a chance in the 5th, bases loaded but Buster whiffs badly to end the inning.
I gotta say McCutchen and Longoria are still underwater at this point. If they are both gonna hit under .250 this year it won’t matter who’s on the mound.
But Crawford goes 1 for 2, keeping his June avg at .500. Go figure.

Old man Crawford with a walk off single for the win today.

Like I said before, he is worth the price of admission by himself. What is the world coming to? Might be the biggest game
of the year (playing first place Arizona) (getting back to .500) and the event is not televised? I didn't find out that they won
until I saw it scrolled on a sports show. Great, great comeback win. It is fun to root for the Gigantes again.
