Only 27 comments on the Washington game thread at the end of the first half. Homecoming last week, the stands were only half full. What's happened?

I care enough that I'm watching a game that I have no hope we'll win. Just hoping to see something to give me confidence this team can win a couple more games this season. But I'm too depressed to bother commenting.

I’m thinking a lot of people are busy rearranging their sock drawers.

+1 to that. At first, I wanted to break things. I slammed my cap to the ground and shouted an F-bomb. My 8 year-old laughed from the other room. Not my finest moment. Now I am resigned and just hoping for the best.

The great thing about Stanford and our athletic department is that we are not simply defined by our football program. So if we are heading toward an 8-4 season, and a midtier bowl, people will be commenting about WVB continuing to roll (toward another Pac-12 title, and in contention for the national championship), Women's Soccer winning yet another Pac-12 title, and in contention for a national championship, and men's soccer set to win yet another Pac-12 title. Even men's water polo might make the NCAA tournament for the first time in several years. We have a lot of positives in our AD to focus on.

Not my point at all. Last year, or two years ago, we'd have hundreds of in game posts. Where are the fans?

6pm Saturday night offers a lot of options. Most of them better than watching us self-destruct in real time. I taped this game and almost turned it off in disgust when we managed to get a DOG before our first play after a kickoff. I'll bet a lot of folks watching live turned it off at halftime.
The Oregon St night game will probably draw about 10000 fans.

It's ***** Saturday night. People who are watching this game are probably at a bar.

I care but was at a wedding last night. I was pissed off then and I'm pissed off now. There is no excuse for this coaching staff and roster to have 8-4 as the best possible result this season other than just doing a poor job. I don't know enough to know where the problems lie, but I think Shaw needs to make significant changes in his staff. Carberry, Pritchard, and maybe Reynolds need to go. I doubt he will do much if anything, but he should.
There also seem to be some awfully big holes in the roster for next year = poor recruiting.

Yes, this is also my view. And I do care, probably too much. I address the coaching challenges over on the thread by cardcrimson about wishing Shaw would succeed. Carberry, Pritchard, Reynolds: all big question marks in my opinion.
And at this stage, 8-4 in the regular season looks optimistic. I don't take any of the next three games for granted, least of all the contest with the Bears over in Berkeley. This could be the year the 8-game winning streak snaps.

I was there last week and I watched last night. After watching three easy touchdowns on UWs first three possessions I was in no mental state to write a post.
To paraphrase my mother, “If you can’t post anything without profanity that will embarass you tomorrow, don’t post anything at all”.

I absolutely care! Was in the stands last week and tried my best to make noise throughout the game. Last night my son had a performance at school, so I was there. ABout to watch the replay despite knowing the outcome. Will have to do more posting on the game thread the next time I watch live.

Bobbleheads should be reserved for players who finish the season

Would have been nice to have had Ben Burr-Kirven from Sacred Heart Prep of Atherton, currently second in the nation in tackles for the Washington Huskies. 12 tackles against Stanford, six solo, one forced fumble, one pass defensed. His 12 tackles against was actually his fewest against a Pac-12 opponent.

As much as I care about the team, the 2018 iteration drives me nuts. At times, especially in the last few games, they seem to be playing superbly and are a playoff contender or at least a conference championship contender. And then, during the same game, they are just brutal.
Seems to me there are four issues affecting performance:
1. Even year schedules are tough.
2. In-game adaptations on offense and defense take too long to be made, if they are made at all.
3. Injuries seem to be more prevalent than in past years.
4. Line play, particularly on the defensive line, is not where it needs to be. I think there are many reasons for this. I don't follow recruiting as closely as others, but I wonder if we are looking too closely at measurables and not enough at the raw desire to be a great football player. IIRC, a number of our best players from earlier on in the Shaw/Harbaugh era, such as Ben Gardner, Henry Anderson, Trent Murphy and David Parry, were no more than three star recruits, but their desire to win and become great football players was clearly obvious and a joy to watch at the time. Football is a highly emotional game, particularly on defense. I wonder sometimes if the generally calm demeanor of Coach Shaw is rubbing off a little too much on our players attitudes. Contrast this with Harbaugh with his EUTM.

Someone with intimate knowledge of the situation indicated that Burr-Kirven was injured during Stanford camp so the coaches never got to see him.

Understandable. Palo Alto to Atherton would have been a tough drive for the coaches to see him play.
