Cheez its bowl - BostonCard - 12-26-2018

man has TCU’s offense fallen from last year (some of that is a credit to cal’s Defense, but this isn’t last year’s TCU).

Cal has a 7-0 lead at halftime in a game that has featured six interceptions (three per side), seven punts, and one turnover on downs.  The only score of the game happened on a shortened field (34 yards in two plays).

TCU’s best chance to tie the score is a pick six.  Unfortunately, they deferred so they will receive the opening kick off.

well, the TCU coach, down 7 in the middle of the third quarter, elected to punt on fourth and 2 inches on the Cal 45. No comment.

Oh no, he turtled it. :)

7 all heading into the fourth quarter; TCU special teams (like last year) set up the score for the Horned Frogs.

RE: Cheez its bowl - BostonCard - 12-26-2018

TCU QB has as many completions to Cal defenders as he has to his own receivers.  Four completions; four interceptions.  Oh and the teams have punted three more times.

Question for those who remember, how does this putrid atrocity of a game compare to the 3-0 OSU victory over Pitt in the sun bowl a decade ago?

BC

Please make it stop!  The teams have now traded punts again.

I wish this had been the game cancelled by lightning.

RE: Cheez its bowl - d4cohn - 12-26-2018

Patrick Laird, the Bears' star senior RB, got hurt in the first half, and has been in street clothes in the second half with his arm in a sling. But I guess the players that worry about getting hurt in a lower tier bowl game are self-focused.

RE: Cheez its bowl - CompSci87 - 12-26-2018

Ugh. Kal was moving the ball on the ground, decided to mix in a pass, and their QB threw a dumb interception when about to be sacked.

RE: Cheez its bowl - shakrat - 12-26-2018

This game is garbage. The only reason to watch is to witness a rival embarrass itself. Bowls are meaningless when a 7-5 team and a 6-6 team spend 60 minutes (plus overtime maybe) trading punts and turnovers. Bowl companies (fine, "committees") are playing us all for fools.

RE: Cheez its bowl - d4cohn - 12-26-2018

8 turnovers, 2 turnovers on downs, 15 punts. There have been more punts now than points scored.

I was actually looking forward to Boise - BC, BC. :)

Another punt, interception (the game’s eighth), turnover on downs, and punt.

This game should end on a safety.

BC

I’m waiting for this to go to OT on a missed field goal, after TCU mounts the closest this game has had to a drive, starting in their own territory and making it to the Cal 29.

Both of these teams trying to score from +25 in OT would be pretty fitting.

Are we sure this game will ever end? Overtime will probably be more of the same. Pray the field goal is good!

RE: Cheez its bowl - d4cohn - 12-26-2018

Looks like I got my wish. Someone must have pressed the Buffalo Wild Wings OT button. :)

RE: Cheez its bowl - CompSci87 - 12-26-2018

Overtime, as TCU's coach waffles about which of his mediocre kickers to use, and the one he picks misses a 45 yarder. That would have been his season long.

Called it.  Were going to OT as TCU misses a 44 yard field goal. Fitting isn’t it?

I’m not so much as watching this game as I am rubbernecking it.

BC

I guess it is fitting as each team has 260 yards of offense and four turnovers (all interceptions).

TCU has no passing game, and Cal without Laird has not much of anything to be honest.

BC

Interception number 9.  All TCU needs is a field goal to end it, but they gotta start at midfield after a personal foul.

RE: Cheez its bowl - d4cohn - 12-26-2018

This is unbelievable. TCU narrowly misses a pick six to end game, then a member of TCU delegation runs into the official, tripping him, and leading to a 15 yard penalty. TCU starts possession, needing only 3, from +40 instead of +25. Can't make this stuff up.

Sideline interference. Not personal foul. A suit ran into the official. Absurd.

RE: Cheez its bowl - BostonCard - 12-26-2018

And with that 27 yard field goal, this game is mercifully over and the PAC-12 moves to oh and two in the bowl season thus far.

RE: Cheez its bowl - fullmetal - 12-26-2018

Hope all the bowl advertisers got their money's worth!

RE: Cheez its bowl - CompSci87 - 12-26-2018

And Cal has officially cheesed it! They lose 10-7 on a field goal by TCU's other kicker.

Was this the cheesiest bowl of the season?

Not just 0-2. 2 unmitigated embarrassments for the Pac-12. Wazzu up next for the "Conference of Champions". Let's pray they don't Coug it, for the conference's reputation sake.

There's lots of schadenfreude on bearinsider for those who like that sort of thing.
