CFP Semifinal- ND vs. Clemson - d4cohn - 12-29-2018

3-3 game so far. Clemson may have just averted an absolute disaster with a special teams turnover.

Clemson is rolling now. Not a good argument to expand to 8 teams, if the number 3 team gets schooled.

I'd still like to watch the early rounds of an 8-team, or even a monstrous FCS-sized tournament.  Even if the 3-seed gets trucked in the semifinals.  Is that weird of me?

RE: CFP Semifinal- ND vs. Clemson - Austroturf - 12-29-2018

Trailing 23-3, Ian Book just threw an INT on a 3rd and 22.  This game is descending into a blow-out.  Not a good showing by the Irish.  I thought the Notre Dame defense was better; and Ian Book has been running for his life all game.

30-3 with two minutes left in the 3rd quarter.  Just ugly.

They will have to throw the rest of the game.  I’m going to sit back and enjoy some continuous Ian book sacks.

Notre Dame's offense hasn't been able to stay on the field since beginning of second quarter. Defense is wearing down as a result. This game starts up front with Clemson DL manhandling the Notre Dame OL.

Kind of like the 4th quarter of our game against the Domers this year.

Yes, that is a bit shocking.  I thought the Notre Dame OL was better than this.  I actually thought the Irish had a fighting chance  of making a game of this, but I was clearly wrong on that.

it is great to watch safeties who can tackle.

Clemson is dancing wif Notre Dame’s dates     . Couldn’t happen to a more deserving coach. Go Tigers!

Pretty bad game.  I'm at my sister's, and she'd rather we switch over to Lawrence Welk reruns.

Given this game, that may be a good choice!

Raise your hand if you were at all surprised that Notre Dame has been revealed to be a pretender.  Other than Michigan, who the hell did they beat all year?

I think it is better to have the #5-#8 teams play against each other rather than play in a Final 8.
Can you imagine #7 Michigan (smoked by #10 Florida today) going up against #2 Clemson in the first round? Those hoping for an 8-team tourney will not be getting dupport from univ prexies any time soon. Just relax and enjoy the current format for the foreseeable future.

Stanford? (Just kidding.)

RE: CFP Semifinal- ND vs. Clemson - BostonCard - 12-29-2018

The argument will be that OSU, who was left out because of the four team limit, would have acquitted itself much better than Notre Dame.

But to be fair, who did Clemson beat?  NC State and Boston College were the highest ranked teams they beat.  Notre Dame destroyed Syracuse, while Clemson struggled to eke out the W against the Orangemen.  Yes, the Tigers were heavily favored in this game; but this level of blow-out is truly a surprise.

The difference between ND and UCF is the name. UCF is undefeated and doesn't get in because they played nobody. ND gets in possibly because they tried to play somebody (USC and Stanford) that just didn't turn out. In any case, ND has a big political advantage. Who gets in if ND had one loss? I would imagine tOSU, but who knows?

RE: CFP Semifinal- ND vs. Clemson - Phogge - 12-29-2018

The Syracuse QB was hurt early and the next guy can’t play. That is exactly what will happen if Costello gets hurt next year. That will be Shaw’s fault.

True, but did you see that game? Clemson was playing their third-string QB because the other two were hurt. Syracuse beat them last year and remembered it was possible. In 2017, the game was at Syracuse.

Not really. Clemson has a very good defense. ND hadn't played anything like it this year. That tends to snowball in a game like this, where once ND got behind they had to take chances, and against such a good defense that just doesn't work.

30-3 doesn't surprise you?  Would you have bet on that spread (-27)?  Not me.
