MBB at CAL -- Bad Loss -
martyup - 01-26-2020
Can we bounce back from the heartbreaking loss to SC? In our first meeting on January 2nd, we beat the Weenies by 16 in Maples.

Game is on ESPNU and we are favored by 8.

Really? Not a single comment?
We lead 23-21 in one of the worst offensive halves I've seen. Defense still crushing it, though.

I was just about to post. At first I thought that there wasn't even a thread.

I've been watching while typing up my notes on the WBB game. I'm delighted we are ahead after that hideously low scoring first half. We are not getting many O-boards, we have turned it over a bit, the pace of the game is slow, and as a result we have taken only 22 shots, making only 8 baskets for the half. But Cal is worse.

Are we running fewer screens on the perimeter than we used to? It seems like we can't get Jones open anymore.

Defenses adjusting to him.

Team does not seem to have bounced back from the SC game.

A comment?
It’s all Dawkins’ fault.

Terry picked up his 4th foul while being pushed to the ground by a Cal player. Same officiating crew from last week?

What is the 3-second play?

My comment is that sucked.
A week after we blew a 20 point halftime lead we blew an 11 point second half lead with 12 minutes left.
15 turnovers and a 9-4 deficit in offensive boards led to Cal having 12 more shots than we had. If we want to make the tournament we can’t afford to lose to middling teams.
Ugh.

They needed 3.3 seconds.
Another blown double digit lead.

Well, another unfortunate meltdown at the end. Ugh.

If that was CAL driving for the final chance to tie it I guarantee they would have called a foul. Total Bullshit. CAL sucks.

Wow. So much for beating everyone we're supposed to beat. Team must be really beating itself up right now.

OK,
Last week someone asked Shaw or Haase implying Haase was the obvious choice.
Haase - the coach with one road win in conference and road losses to Cal and USC? Ummm, yeah, I take the 4 time Pac-12 North division winner thank you very much.
The Stanford team is so much better than Cal and USC. Winning on the road is tough, but losing those big second half leads to those two teams is not exactly the sign of great coaching.
FWIW - I understood the shot was after the clock hit 0.0, but I thought the FOUL was before 0.0. Oh well.... Team with that effort in the second half didn't really deserve to win. Haase's team is not playing well in close games or in road games.
From aspirations of a potential 4 or 5 seed to a return to the bracketology bubble. :(
