It appears that about 15% are testing positive, so as the increased testing takes place, we should see jumps of 3500-4000 in case a day in the near term.

Well, the March 2020 U.S. case growth came in at 5,594. That is just 400 shy of Italy's new cases yesterday.
As of Saturday morning we are at 20,000. Expect to be at least 80,000, challenging for the world lead nobody wants, next week, and for sure having it in two weeks.

I think this can be significant for on site testing so patient doesn’t leave and infect others while they wait for results

More broadly, we need to enlist the people who have worked for years trying to optimize supply chains to squeeze every last dollar out of them to change tunes and work to optimize supply chains to maximize their effectiveness in delivering vital services: testing, PPE, ventilators, healthcare professionals, treatment centers, etc.

Even if we get this under control, all it takes is for a single case to escape the quarantine or be re-imported from another country, and this whole process starts over. The testing HAS to happen. Someone on the board here keeps saying that we can't afford to do mass testing. That's bullshit--if South Korea can afford it, then we can, and it is the only way to get this under control in the long term.
Meanwhile some cities are states are basically giving up on testing because they still sufficent test kits. Great job, CDC!

The data suggests only the state of New York or maybe just NYC is doing any testing on any kind of scale.
NY has reported a whopping 12,000+ cases so far today (3/22)!
As of 3/21, NY had done nearly 3.6x more tests than CA. What is the lag in CA testing that NY doesn't seem to have?
My assumption is CA has to have a similar number of cases to NY, but maybe CA taking measures to shut things down sooner kept things under control? Even 5x CA's reported cases wouldn't even be 8,000, while NY now reports nearly 23k confirmed cases.

I don’t think so. New York’s hospitals are overwhelmed; California’s not yet. They’ve reported 114 deaths (58 in the last day), California has 28 deaths (4 new). While the outbreak is hardly contained in California, it is orders of magnitude better than in New York.

Note that the FDA issued a statement that the tests are not authorized, warning the public, and threatening to take action.

And where it would fail FIRST is in the USA's most densely packed city, NYC.
It is just very difficult to live in NYC and practice social distancing.
Before anyone might say no approach would work I want to offer Seoul and Tokyo. South Korea and Japan have cities with far greater density than USA's NYC and both were able to flatten their curves.
Just need better people in place within leadership. POTUS promised he would hire the best, so I suggest he brush up on his Korean and Japanese as the best at urban pandemic control apparently don't live in the USA.

Anyone have any idea if/how the U.S. or even some states are pursing this?
I just talked with a friend near St. Louis who told me he and his SO had what they thought was flu a month ago. They had 5+ day fevers and both had difficulty breathing. At the time they thought they had bad flu, but now they wonder if they had Covid-19. There are a lot of people who fit this description and would love to be tested for the antibody so if they have it, they can volunteer to help where they can.

In addition, plasma transfusions from recovered patients may be an effective aid to patients currently struggling with the virus. That would be a great way to help with the most severe cases.
