A random gripe re football unis -

I am so completely over the terrible black outline on the jersey numbers.
White on red. Red on white. That's it! The black outline is just hideous and needs to go!

Why is it so horrible to you?

Yeah, I hate the black outline too. But, I think it was only around during the Teevens/Harris years. Or, did they add back a little bit last year?

Agree 100%. Bring back the Cardinal Red and eliminate the black border. The difference in appearance is so striking.

Nope, I do not agree. To me, the thin black line outlining the numbers makes them look a lot sharper and more finished. I get that some people like the old-fashioned look with no outlines but I think that look is too rustic. The old style look like practice jerseys. I would agree if they went to thick black lines or the shadow effect that some teams have used. The version they used last year is the perfect modern uniform. But, I am also a fan of them wearing the black uniforms for one game a year so maybe I don't have enough respect for "Tradition".
Cheers,
Pete F.

I also don't like the black outline on the jersey numbers, but if I could make one change I would go back to the plain Block S on the helmets...

I like black everywhere and a skull and crossbones on the helmet. Change the name from the pansy "Cardinal" to something swashbuckling. Maybe "Raptors." This IS football after all and not a game of pommel horse. Back it up with an attacking defense Lance, and not something better suited to a tea party like last year's bend and break unit. Might as well get beat with a couple of late hits per game rather than watch a bunch of Stanford safeties backing away from a tackle. I call it Dick Mannini football. Of course Toi Cook and Dave Wyman won't be available.

Can you imagine Alabama or Oklahoma putting a stupid black outline around their white numbers on red jerseys?

You just pushed the swing vote over to the black outline camp.

If you're going to go with a bird then go with the Cassowary - the world's most dangerous bird
Quote:
It's been called the world's most dangerous bird. Its long dagger-like toes, in fact, were responsible for the death of a man in Florida last year.
Each of its three-toed feet has a claw that can be up to 4 inches or 10 centimeters long, allowing it to slice open a predator with a single kick, according to the San Diego Zoo. It can also run up to 31 miles per hour through dense forest and jump up to 7 feet (2 meters).

One of the key elements of great design is simplicity. The black outline is too busy. You think there is something there, so have to look harder to see it. Red and white are not colors that need black to be seen next to each other. Their contrast is plenty enough to be seen against when contrasted together. The black border around white numbers is totally unnecessary and therefore, bad design that looks cheap.Football uniforms should look classic. Look at the Niners. You don’t see them with black border around their white numerals on red jersey.

The Niners wore Throwbacks in ‘94, their last SB winning season. White pants a la Y.A. Tittle, red jersey, white number with black shadows that feigned depth. Looked cool.
Kids love Oregon’s five or six thousand uni combos. Stanford could play in polo’s and khakis as long as they don’t play boring, losing football.

I like the black trim. The Stanford Jersey I have has the black trim. Additionally, my preference is that the pants have stripes on the side and not be all-white.

I like the more simple look without the black trim, too. But I do like the tree in the Block S.

I've always liked the red jerseys, white pants, no trim. I agree with OF, simple/classic/clean is the key.
There was an issue of Sports Illustrated that had a full-page interior photo of either Muster or Vardell in that uniform, and it was almost elegant, it looked so good.
This isn't the photo, but it's the uni that I like.
The busier the uniform, the less I tend to like them. 49er uniforms are fine, about average for me.

Raider throwbacks don’t exist. It is the classiest uniform in sports.

Shades of BuddyBall, for starters. Overall, however, it's a cheaper look. Do you see Alabama doing this or O.U or Penn St or USC? It is not Stanford. Devalues the whole team. Oh, wait, devaluation is already well underway. Maybe it's entirely appropriate. Might as well bring back the Buddypants and the Buddyhelmet. Maybe we'll see Shaw in a visor pretty soon, too. Can't wait.

Is this the objectionable uniform?
They look simple and clean to me other than the attaboy axes on the helmets. I save my outrage for travesties like the gray on gray alternate uniforms of the Wake Forest/Luck game.
