WBB: Stanford 83 Washington 50 -
81alum - 12-05-2020
Preview:
Washington is 3-0 after demolishing Cal on Friday. They are led by a freshman! Tameiya Sadler, a Bay Area guard, is scoring 19 ppg and hitting more than half of her treys. In fact, Washington has more Californians on its team than Stanford does, I think. They are a very young team. We will see what Jody Wynn has cooked up for us.

Washington has three players out for the year. One would have started another play not sure if the 3rd would have
Their former walk on Lind made 3 threes vs cal
The Washington site says stream.

I remember a Washington Stanford mens game a couple of decades ago. Three of Stanford's starters were from Washington and four of Washington's were from California. The announcers were questioning just who the "home" team was.

All right, a few minutes to tip off.
Tara taking to Kevin Danna. Says she is happy everyone got minutes and no one is exhausted. Points out the Washington freshman sensation Sadler from Vallejo. Rebounding is a big deal. Game will start at 2:00 on the dot.
AND the broadcast is working.
13-10 6 minutes in. Some really sloppy defense and the offense has not been picture perfect either. Jones and Belibi with 6 each.

Good start for Jones and Belibi. We're up 13-10 with 3:48 left in the 1st.

Washington is bigger and much stronger than the first two opponents.

Our offensive rebounding keeping us ahead

Some real lapses on defense leading to wide open shots for the Huskies, and as well as some giveaway turnovers. Also why are we always such laggards at the line?

19-14 after 1 quarter. Sloppy on both ends. Shooting only 35% and 0/5 from three. But as has been remarked, 7 O-boards have helped us stay ahead. I would like to see our execution improve--especially on defense.
YES! Opening the 2nd with a 10-0 run. Jones is throwing up improbably mid range shots that always go in.

We are up 19-14 at the end of the 1st. We are only shooting 37%. 7 made free throws are keeping us ahead.

Getting shots in the paint then fouled but 7 of 12 on FTs not great

Our 58% FT% is keeping us ahead but barely.

Jones is putting on a clinic. She has 15 and we're up 17 with 6:24 remaining in the 2nd Q.

Much better defense in the second quarter. And man is Jones unstoppable against inferior talent. Her game is just so much fun to watch.

Up 17

Jones is to the WBB team as Plummer was to the WVB team.
Belibi is establishing herself as the first team post player. She is smooth under the basket with the ball.

Tara better have them practice three pointers after halftime. Nothing dropping from outside.
