Other Games this Weekend - Austroturf - 11-06-2021

Watching Cal and Arizona right now.  Both teams look really bad.  0-0 with a couple minutes left in the first half.  Cal has 1 first down and 63 yards of offense.

So you're telling me there's a chance?

Cal is missing a host of players because of Covid protocols, so their performance is perhaps a bit misleading.  Garbers isn't even playing.

OK, well there goes that.

Not sure.  Depends on what Cal looks like at full strength.  Right now, with Glover under center, they look really bad.  3-and-outs the whole game except one 1st down.

In the 1st half, Arizona outgained Cal 179-66.

The combined 13 drives ended in 11 punts and 2 turnovers.

2 ranked teams have lost so far today and 3 more are losing.
7 more games with ranked teams have yet to start.

Wildcats up 3-0 vs. the Bears in the 3rd quarter.  Bears have less than 73 yards of offense.

MSU trailing Purdue 21-14 at the half.

RE: Other Games this Weekend - chrisk - 11-06-2021

Arizona less than 2 minutes away from winning its first game in over 2 years.

The 300 students at the game stormed the field well before the game ended but nobody cared in this case.

Yes, the Bears were shorthanded (in some sense, the way Stanford was yesterday) and had a total of 122 yards of offense and 9 first downs, while Arizona threw three interceptions, but managed to amass 340 yards of offense.  10-3, Wildcats.

Fix it.

RE: Other Games this Weekend - BostonCard - 11-06-2021

“Something” was doing a lot of work there.

BC

One week after MSU ran all over Michigan, they are down 13 in the fourth quarter against us ranked Purdue.

BC

Previously unbeaten Wake Forest lost to unbanked UNC.

BC

Down goes MSU.

BC

Also, previously unbeaten Baylor goes down to TCU the same week that the latter parted ways with its longtime coach.

And everyone’s darling Cincinnati was a yard away from facing a two point conversation for a tie from 3-5 Tulsa.  Unfortunately, style points count for Cinci, since their only ranked win will likely be Notre Dame (maybe SMU by the time they play).

I think I heard that Cal was missing 24 players and several coaches.

This is correct, with a dozen or so being starters.  Garbers was among them.

OR getting some of their own medicine as UW defensive line uses shift calls to induce false starts.

The city of Berkeley required the whole Cal team to be tested Wednesday after multiple positives were reported earlier in the week. Keller Chryst’s father was one of rhe five assistant coaches sidelined.

Quote:Twenty-four Cal players, including quarterback Chase Garbers, were not available for the game after they tested positive for COVID-19 this week. Grad transfer Ryan Glover, who had not played a single snap this season, was the Bears' starting quarterback against Arizona.

Five Cal assistant coaches also were unavailable Saturday because of COVID issues, but head coach Justin Wilcox, offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave and defensive coordinator Peter Sirmon were present.
