BYU leads. Stanford is currently in 17th place with 223.5 points after Final Fall Standings just released:

Lots of chances to score big in the back half: WBB, baseball, Wgolf, Mgolf, Mgym, WWP, Wtennis. Amongst those we should at least keep the Natty streak alive, if not reclaim the Cup.

Stanford is in 17th place with 223.5 points. Texas, last year's winner, is in 24th place with 186.5 points. Last year, Stanford was in 3rd place with 339 points, and Texas was in 26th place with 144 points. This doesn't bode well.

Bernie certainly must be proud and no changes to staff will be required. All is well.

Stanford is nearly 130 points ahead of last year's pace. At this point last year, Stanford trailed Michigan by 22.5 points, but that margin has ballooned to a 149 point lead for the Wolverines this year.
Last year, Stanford outscored Michigan by 91.75 points in the Spring sports. The Cardinal will have to outdo that by nearly 60 more points in order to overtake Michigan for the Cup this year.
But, of course, Michigan isn't the only threat. Last year's winner, Texas, currently sits in 6th place. Which is a 5-place and 121-point improvement over where the Longhorns were at this point last year. Stanford's current lead over Texas is 171.75 points. But the Longhorns outscored the Cardinal by 220 points in last year's Spring season. So we need to improve on that by nearly 50 points in the final season of this year's campaign.

We don't care about who is in first now. The important thing is who is in first at the end. I believe Michigan is relatively weaker in spring. But Texas came on strong last year in the spring.
Spring sports include WWP, MVB, W BVB, MLAX, WLAX, MTen, WTen, MGolf, WGolf, WRow, SFB, MT&F, WT&F,
BSB
Rankings do NOT matter. It only matters how you finish in the NCAA tournament. If you don't go to it, you get 0.
Baseball is looking good most of the time at #7, but will they make it to Omaha?
WWP is looking good, but a bad MPSF semi-final game (
THIS WEEKEND) could leave us with 0 points.
MVB might possibly make the tournament, but it seems likely not (RPI is much lower than #13 ranking).
Beach VB seems we are right on the cusp as to whether we go to the NCAA tournament or not. I think we will.
MLAX - no team.
WLAX - We're not yet to a national level.
MTen Stanford #14, Texas #12
WTen Stanford ranked #18, Texas #4
MGolf is ranked #14.
WGolf seems under-performing relative to their #1 ranking.
WRow - I have no idea, but isn't that one that Texas won last year?
SFB - The team is doing better than predicted, but only ranked #33.
MT&F - ?
WT&F - ?

Excellent recap of Stanford spring sports. One small correction. With a 16 team NCAA tournament Stanford Beach VB will definitely be in the tournament starting May 4 in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

It looks like it was the conference semifinal. Stanford now gets the winner of USC vs Pepperdine in the MPSF final.

Isn’t that the second time we’ve upset UCLA this year? Is it like the MBB team’s two upsets of USC.

Sorry, but no Directors' Cup this year.
Using last year's spring sports scores with this year's fall & winter scores, Stanford falls way short of Texas.
Even if Stanford wins 4x NC in Baseball, WGolf, Row, and WWP, Stanford still comes up short to Texas.
Stanford will likely score more points overall, but the 15-sport limit will take away more than 200 points. No points would be taken away from Texas. (One would think they have focused on the 15-sport limit.)
School Total Pts 15-sport limit Last year
Texas 1373.25 1373.25 1252.00
Stanford 1486.50 1250.00 1195.75
Michigan 1392.25 1238.25 1126.50
If Stanford won NC in Baseball, WGolf, Row, and WWP, Stanford still loses 1363 to 1326.
It would take adding a NC in Beach VB to push Stanford over the top barely (by 13 points). Even then, Stanford still loses if Texas wins either of the Men or Women T&F championships (they're ranked #1 in each).
How can this be? A championship is worth 100 points, but for Stanford, it bumps out another sport that scored about 50 points. So, for Stanford, national championships only give a net of 50 points. Stanford can expect to score in 22 sports beyond the exempt 4.

Thanks for the great analysis.
A key for Texas is their strength relative to Stanford in the four required sports.
In WBB, Stanford gained ten points on Texas, 83 to 73. In WVB, Texas gained 23 points on Stanford, 73 to 50. In MBB, Texas gained 50 points on Stanford, 50 to 0. The net gain for Texas is 63 points before Baseball where both teams are Top 10.

(Again, my numbers are the sum of 2021-2022 Fall & Winter plus 2021("last year") Spring sports.)
If you add up the similar sports of indoor & outdoor T&F and CC events (6 of 37 possible championships), that accounts for 155 points advantage of Texas over Stanford. I really don't know how much overlap there is in athletes competing in multiple of those championships.
If there wasn't an artificial 4+15-sport limit, Stanford easily wins. That limitation reduces Stanford's score by more than 200 points.
It doesn't help that the #4 ranked MWP team wasn't allowed to go to the national championship event so got zero points, while (as an example) Texas scores (and keeps) 27 points for a 32nd place finish in W CC. Summed over all teams, a lot more points are scored in a few sports than some of the others.
I think I've heard that the 4+15-sport limit was to prevent large athletic programs like Stanford from having an advantage over smaller athletic programs like Texas.
Texas competed in 20 NCAA sports, scoring in 19 - only Football didn't score.
Stanford competed in 31 of the 37 NCAA sports with team championships (missing WBowl, M&W IH, Rifle, Skiing, MLax),
scored in 25 NCAA sports (missing FB, MBB, MWP, MSOC, MVB(2021), WFH),
but scores counted in only 18 of those sports.

Thanks, MT, great analysis. I had been looking at Stanford's strong possibilities to score points, without understanding the effect of the number of counters limitation, now I see the problem. Unfortunate.

What hurt us a lot this year is that the fall sports WVB, WSoc and MSoc did poorly. WSoc and WVB were essentially one-and-done and MSoc didn't qualify for the tournament. In past years we often scored 200+ points in aggregate from those three sports.
