Ty. I'm looking forward to seeing how incoming grad transfer Bynum and stud recruits Stojakovic and Carlyle impact the team's performance this season. I'm done saying, "If Haase can't make it to the dance with this team, then..." for obvious reasons, but I'll watch nonetheless.

OK, I was once an avid MBB fan--in the Montgomery era. Should I invest my emotional energy and viewership in this team, this year?

You should always watch since you are a fan but set your expectations accordingly.
I’m predicting 5-5 preseason and 8-12 in the PAC.
Will Stanford beat a team that is favored by 8 or more? Probably not.
Will Stanford lose when they are favored by 8 or more. Probably.
Am I gonna watch every game? No. I’ll watch some depending on my options that night.

from The Daily
https://stanforddaily.com/2023/10/05/kanaan-carlyle-blazes-his-own-path-forward/
Quote:Freshman guard Kanaan Carlyle does not need to talk a lot to make his presence known on the court. With a simple between-the-legs dribble, he makes defenders instinctively shuffle their feet backward. In just two hard dribbles, the six-foot-three guard can find himself at the rim, soaring over defenders for a dunk.

What a great article! Hmm, maybe MBB will win me back....

Broncos vs. Stanford at Maples, 11/14, 6 p.m. Third game of the season for both teams.
Broncos have five transfers and some highly recruited frosh, with six players 6-9 or taller and three over 7'0". Should be a good game.

I see Murrell as the clear 6, but hope you’re right about Stoja and Carlyle being good enough to play ahead of him.

This is a make or break season for Haase. Getting into the NCAA tourney is a minimum - going 8-12 in the Pac-12 would be unacceptable IMO.
RE: Stanford MBB 2023-24 -

Been so for 3-4 years, if you ask me. We'll call this season the "This-better-be-Haase's-last-year-on-the-Farm-if-this-loaded-team-can't-make-it-to-the-dance" campaign.

That game jumped out at me, too, Mick. And it's not for local bragging rights. These local OOC programs -- St. Mary's for sure, but SCU, too, and maybe even USF -- have thrashed Stanford recently. If this program is gonna get over the hump and make it to March, it has to win this game, imo.

This gets said in one form or another every year now.
We all agree that 8-12 in the Pac 12 is unacceptable. The $64 question is do the people whose opinion makes a difference also agree.
I guess the only thing that is for sure is that we won't go 8-12 in the Pac-12 after this year. (At least for the foreseeable future).

8 years of this basketball performance with only 2 winning seasons (and no tournament appearances) is putrid. I'd place money on a coaching change after this year if the performance repeats as Dawkins lasted 8 years. Going to 9 is malpractice.

Gather no one went to the open practice ?
We have 6 players who could or will be playing their final college season.
Final year for sure
Michael Jones
Spencer Jones
Keefe
Bynum
Possible covid year 5th year:
Angel
Murrell
We have no commits and per 247 only one warm possible
Of course given our record of the last 19 seasons except when the Lopis played no surprise about recruiting

And I don't mean the NIT or some pay to play BS.

Well, at least the next coach will have a built in "cupboard was bare" excuse. Assuming there is a next coach next year rather than more of the same. :-/

I don't know if there's even an exciting coach candidate in this market interested in this job
