I was drafted in 2007 by the Giants (#51 overall, 41 spots after Madison Bumgarner), but only played one season in the bigs at Oracle, getting three hits in 22 ABs. My father was the Giants 16th selection in the 1984 draft, and played in the Giants' system for five years.
I bounced around the majors for 11 years as the ultimate utility player...I played every position but catcher. Along the way, I compiled a .248/.294/.386/.680 slash line, but I excelled in the postseason, having participated in four postseasons with a slash line of .316/.325/.500/.825. I hit a walk-off home run in September, 2016 that clinched the pennant for the Dodgers during Vin Scully's last home game (regular season).
Along the way, I begged, pleaded and cajoled my managers into allowing me to pitch in five separate seasons...and I pitched pretty well. I pitched 7 1/3 innings across eight games and my ERA was 1.23 with a 1.364 WHIP. I gave up 7 hits and three walks in those five years, but I only gave up a run in my first game...none in the last seven. My career WAR as a hitter was -0.1, but I actually have a positive WAR as a pitcher, +0.2. My range factor is much better than a typical pitcher, probably because 3B is my natural position, but I played SS, 2B and 1B as well. My fastball topped out at 93.7 mph and averaged 92.2 mph. My spin rate was well above the major league average (2,430 rpm vs. MLB 2,262 rpm).
I haven't been a serious pitcher since my senior year in high school. This year, I am trying to catch on as a pitcher and I have been invited to the minor league camp of the Atlanta Braves.

Kansas finished the season ranked 23rd in the AP College Football Poll. It was their first finish in the Top 25 since 2007. Only four Power 5 schools have not finished in the Top 25 from 2007 to the present day? Who are the members of this unfortunate Mt. Rushmore of college football futility?

I was wondering about the Illini and the Orange, as I lived near both. Illiini were ranked only in 2007 or 8, and the Orange once 7 years ago. Both pretty futile, but not futile enough. . . .

One left - the P5 school that has gone the longest (2003) without a spot in the final AP Poll.
Note: 2003 is also the last time this school had fewer than 4 losses in the regular season.

Rutgers was 18th in 2012 and 25th in 2009. Thought Schiano had done better his first time around (though he wasn't there in 2012). That said, Rutgers was in the Big East at the time. . . .

That is correct.IMO since there is no more PAC-12 championship and playing in the Rose Bowl, Kal will now have to substitute never finishing in the final top 25 for never playing in the Rose Bowl. Therefore, the "last" to qualify will never ever happen :-).

I think Cal will be the first voted into the Final Top 25. They will feast on the weaker competition after their step down into the ACC, and I think it will help them recruit nationally. So of the four, Cal will return first. I think Purdue will be second. I think UVa actually had a long and strong football tradition between 1984 and 2004, finishing in the Top 25 eight times in the 21 years. And they did finish 25th in the Coaches poll in 2019 (had the votes for a #29 finish in the AP). Plus, they're a Southern school.
That leaves Rutgers. They've only finished in the Top 25 four times in school history. They're in an area with poor high school football programs (compared to Florida, Texas, California and the Midwest). They'll be the last.
BTW, here's the number of times each school has finished in the AP Top 25 in their program history, along with Stanford's number:
Stanford, 20
Cal, 14
Purdue, 16
UVa, 9
Rutgers, 4
