2025 NFL Draft - Mick - 04-25-2025

No Stanford players taken. I suspect Ayomanor will be gone by the end of the third round. I've seen him rated from top 50 to #87 (SI). Bernadel will be a Day 3 pick...everybody needs linebackers. Might see him on the Niners or Raiders. Not sure who else from Stanford will be selected in the remainder of the draft, maybe LB David Bailey.

Shadeur Sanders not taken in the first round. QBs taken in the first round, Cam Ward (1), Jaxson Dart (25, NY Giants). ESPN had posited a 96% chance that Sanders would be gone by the 21st pick, then upped it to 97% he would be taken in the first round. Oops.

Jacksonville's 34-year-old GM traded up for the #2 overall pick, Travis Hunter, WR. First team in 28 years to trade into the top two picks and NOT take a quarterback. The Browns received the fifth overall selection in Thursday night's draft, the fourth pick in Friday night's second round (No. 36 overall), a fourth-round pick (No. 126 overall) and Jacksonville's 2026 first-round pick. The Jags will also get Cleveland's fourth-round pick (No. 104 overall) and also a sixth-round pick (No. 200 overall).

Best part from the article: Following a 4-13 season, Khan fired coach Doug Pederson but initially retained general manager Trent Baalke to work with the new coach brought in. But a couple of weeks later, Khan shockingly sacked Baalke, too, after top coaching candidates seemingly balked at the Jaguars’ opening because of his presence."

Sanders was not taken in the second round either, or in the first 18 picks of the third round.

Brock Purdy showed us all that all you need is just one shot.  Sanders will be fine.  His off-the-field situations are entirely of his own doing, but I'm sure it paid off in NIL deals.

RE: 2025 NFL Draft - French Rage - 04-25-2025

What kind of moron would want to draft Sanders, or, failing that, tell owners to draft Sanders, when they already destroyed another football league because of their own incompetence and dumbfuckery?  Is there anyone mentioning that description?  I'm trying to think of anyone like that.

RE: 2025 NFL Draft - BostonCard - 04-25-2025

Mostly just shock.  He didn’t go in the third round either, despite grading as the second best QB in the draft.

Someone will get a day 3 steal.

RE: 2025 NFL Draft - chrisk - 04-25-2025

ESPN shows Ayomanor as the #2 remaining pick on the board after Sanders.

Browns originally had the #2 pick but traded down rather than draft Sanders or Hunter. The Browns need a lot off players and did not need a QB distraction either Flacco and Pickett in the house. The haul from the Jaguars was too good to pass up. They did get a QB in the 3rd round, Dillon Gabriel, the 24yo 6-year man from Oregon, Oklahoma and UCF plus HS in Hawaii.

maybe, maybe not.  QB success in the NFL is difficult to predict with some "can't miss" QBs failing like say JaMarcus Russell or Tim Couch or David Carr or even Jim Plunkett early in his career, and some who "come out of nowhere" like say Johnny Unitas drafted in the 9th round, cut by the Steelers then a year later signed by the Colts....or Kurt Warner who was an UDFA....

I heard Husak before Day 2 on KNBR.  He nailed it.  Wasn’t particularly high on Sanders.  Not a terrific athlete.  Stats were inflated by a ton of very short throws and great receivers. Doesn’t throw well on run.  Not great pocket presence.

I think because he’s Deion’s son some just assume he’s elite athletically.  He is not.  Husak basically said he has a solid floor , but not a particularly high ceiling.

Sanders was at 74 percent.  But NFL accuracy and college accuracy are different things.  I remember how “accurate” Marcus Mariotta was at Oregon.  I also remember he had wide open receivers.  Elite speed everywhere.  And threw a lot of passes at or near LOS. His NFL issue has been accuracy.  Sanders is similar in that vein.

Husak had NO picking Tyler Slough if he was still around.  Better athlete.  Better at planting his back foot and delivering his throws accurately -meaning in stride.

Husak said the most important tools are the ability to make the right read, set back foot, hit receivers in stride.

He also said Milroe had a very high ceiling, but was the hardest to gauge.  Tremendous athlete. Will need to get with an organization that can work on his fundamentals.

He didn’t mention Dillon Gabriel. And I suspect the fact that he was picked before Sanders probably would’ve been a bit of a surprise to him. Of course Gabriel had a six year college career so he should be a bit more polished.

Pretty interesting to hear his thoughts. Husak  is an excellent analyst.

Yes, this discussion happens every year.

The reason these guys are "diamonds in the rough" is because the vast majority are "the rough."

RE: 2025 NFL Draft - PVTree - 04-26-2025

Ayomanor drafted 136 by Tennessee at the end of the 4th round. I wish he had gone to a team with an established QB. He may struggle getting enough balls to make an impact.

lolbrowns

Shedeur can learn how to become a mature adult from Deshaun.

RE: 2025 NFL Draft - fullmetal - 04-26-2025

I saw a video online comparing Cam's throws to Shedeur's identical practice throws in a controlled dome.  Ward definitely had zip on his throws compared to Sanders.  I don't think Sanders is as good of an athlete as the hype says he is.  It'll be interesting to see how Travis Hunter develops.

Yes, exactly.  For every 6th round QB who becomes the GOAT, there are dozens who don't play a single down.  We of course remember Tom Brady, but our own Todd Husak was drafted three picks behind Brady and threw 2 career NFL passes.  Most sixth round QB picks are like Husak.

He is not particularly athletic on today’s quarterback scale. If his name wasn’t  Sanders, there wouldn’t be any question about that.

RE: 2025 NFL Draft - old spanish trail - 04-26-2025

Myles Hinton drafted in the 6th round by the Eagles after finishing up at LT for Mich last year. He may not be quick enuf to make the team, but he exceeded the expectations of several here. Not me.

The crazy thing is that the Browns had already picked Gabriel in the third round.  So they took two QBs, on top of Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and an injured Deshaun Watson (which, now would be a good time to cut bait), which seems like a bit of an overkill, but as you noted LOLBrowns.  They kind of need wide receivers and offensive linemen, so maybe they are just stocking up on QBs because they expect them to be injured.

The only other potential Stanford affiliated player that may get drafted is Yurosek although I suspect he'll be a free agent signed by someone.
