Palisch and Dixon 9 1/3 shut out innings in relief. What a great win. RBI single by Huff in the 12th to go ahead the. A 2 run HR by Robinson

This series win was epic. Oregon has always had good pitching in their program's brief history and it seems that whenever we travel up to Eugene, our bats have gone into a soggy funk. Great to see the script get flipped.

Awesome! I confess I thought it was over when I checked the game status on my phone and saw that Oregon loaded the bases in the ninth with one out. Next I saw, we made it to the tenth. How did Dixon get out of that? And why was he still pitching?

It's time to start worrying about whether Stanford hosts a regional or not.
There were 20 "potential" regional hosts named, of which 16 will actually host. Or more practically to think about, four of those named will not.
The 20, with RPI in parentheses: Arizona (6), Arkansas (1), Charlotte (18), East Carolina (11), Florida (20), Gonzaga (24), Louisiana Tech (29), Mississippi (15), Mississippi State (5), Notre Dame (10), Oregon (17), Pittsburgh (48), South Carolina (14), Southern Mississippi (25), Stanford (13), Tennessee (9), Texas (3), Texas Christian (7), Texas Tech (8) and Vanderbilt (4).
There are two high RPI teams not on the list: Fairfield (2) and Old Dominion (12).
If the hosts are chosen by a straightforward evaluation of the top teams, Stanford is in good shape by any of the polls or RPI.
By RPI the four out would be Pittsburgh, Louisiana Tech, Southern Mississippi, and Gonzaga.
My fear is trouble if the NCAA tries to minimize travel for the field (that will be overwhelmingly southeastern as usual) and look to claim they are treating smaller conferences fairly.
Only two ACC teams were named possible hosts, non-traditional members Notre Dame and Pittsburgh. Immediately after being named a possible host Pitt went on a 7 game losing streak. Presumably that played them out of hosting, but they are the closest thing to a northeast team in the group.
The other three teams among the four worst RPIs are smaller conference teams.
I only see one new poll out so far, Stanford moved to #10 in Baseball America. Oregon #13. Gonzaga #20.
Other polls will be coming out later today.
My real fear is that the NCAA will only choose two or three western hosts, stating that the number of tournament teams in the west doesn't justify more. Stanford will be fine if they stay ahead of Oregon in the polls and RPI, and really should be fine even if not. But better not get swept this weekend.

Fingers crossed that doesn't happen, and it's not likely by the records this year. Oregon State is reeling a bit -- they're 2-5 in their last seven games, which were a series loss each to Arizona and Arizona State, as well as one-game loss to Portland. Still, best to put up style points while you can.

The phrase "oppo taco" reportedly was coined by the Angels' radio broadcaster, Victor Rojas. It goes back to at least 2010.

You are right, I have seen the NCAA do some crazy things in baseball. This series will be big, I think the possibility of hosting is a bonus. I have to say this team is ahead of the expectation, and will serve them well with who they will lose in the lineup after this season. That 5-11 start last year put a real but question mark on this year, along with those freshman coming in and missing their Sr. year of playing. So basically some were coming in from Jr. year of HS to the Pac.
Not knowing the academic schedule, but it would help to have finals over with to concentrate on the task at hand for this weekend and regional play!

When I posted that, I wasn't actually expecting someone to look up its etymology; this site constantly amazes.
Mostly, I had meant that as an eye roll to an overly excitable announcer. It's a horrible expression.

There are no final exams this year except in professional schools.
Last day of undergrad classes is June 4.

I still speak analog BC. No "bomb" for home run, no "trey" for a long shot, no "filming" for material shot on a wafer. Above all no slinging "dude" every six seconds. Dudes were guys who dressed like Greg Peck in "The Big Country."

Is there a word for material shot onto a silicon wafer in analog? That's kind of like asking the Bedouins for their word for "snow".

Well we used to shoot on film, 16 or 35. Then wide screen was invented and we shot on anamorphic cinemascope or Todd-AO. An outlier was Cinerama shot with three camera and projected by three with the screen bent out left and right. Then Super 35 and Super 16 were the forerunners of wide screen TV which became HD, a slightly smaller scan then S35. Of course while this was happening Ampex invented videotape, didn't have a clue to marketing and lost out to Sony, Ikegami and Panasonic. But videotape ultimately couldn't hold off digital and I can carry hundreds of hours of raw material in my pockets and not in a bunch of cases.
Personally, I still like the texture of the remaining film stocks and the feel of actually touching work print while making magic on a Movieola editing machine. But nobody does that anymore. Hardly anyone uses long takes The Underground Railroad and I'm sure that Frederick Weisman is pissed. Staccato is king.

There seem to be lots of baseball polls.
There are some tournament field projections out.
D1Baseball has Stanford as the overall #9 seed, with UC Irvine* as the #2 in the Stanford regional.
Baseball America has Stanford as the overall #12 seed, with UC Irvine as the #2 in the Stanford regional.
There are several other projections out there, but many seem extremely unreliable - they do things like list teams that didn't make the qualifying list of 20 as regional hosts.
With a loss by East Carolina, Stanford up to #12 in RPI after Tuesdays games.
Hosting and seeding rival South Carolina also lost early in the SEC tournament.
*Stanford took 3 of 4 from UC Irvine at Sunken Diamond in early March. UC Irvine has gone on to a 3 game lead in the Big West - I think they need one win this weekend to win their conference title outright.
