Plus no outs
We also shouldn't have cut off that laserbeam home by Montgomery that gave them the 3rd run. Troy didn't need to hurry that throw to first that led to a run. I know this is a young team and a young season. I expect that these things will be ironed out as our offense finds its footing and we make some noise in the Pac-12!

5-4 today in the bottom of the eighth no outs, but we are in danger of blowing yet another lead. Led 5-1 at the top of the inning. Very troubling.

The bullpen has gone MIA. Have to think it's fixable as they all pitched well earlier. But they're all in a funk now.

What has happened to Brock Jones? Last year hit .311 this year hitting .250 with 20 SO already. He had 56 for the year last year. Does he have a pitch he can't hit that everyone is throwing?

Davis is 0-9 this year.
Somone else is going to have to step up and take the reigns since Jones is in his own head. He is not right, but he is also not getting any pitches to hit. So as a result, he is swinging at garbage, instead of being patient and take what they give him. I am assuming Esquer is leading him off to see better pitches, but to set the table since he is walked a lot so far. Jones needs to be more patient, and wait for a mistake. Either way, he is going to get drafted.

Agree re Jones. But it’s Nicholson’s first year. At least give him another year for rrecruiting.

Here we go again: had two leads erased, and now we've loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with one out.
Arrggh! I stepped away for dinner. Came back and we're still in the seventh! 8 runs for AZ. And the bases are loaded again.

Finished work and saw the score was 3-3 on my phone app. By the time I turned on Sling, it was 7-3 and now 9-3. The little numbers next to the team names say STAN is #24 and ARIZ is #9. Might’ve been a wider gap if this was a Fri-Sun series. :(

How bad is Stanford playing? WSU comes to town this weekend. Team is 9-10 overall, 1-5 in the conf. The lone win was against OR State 9-8 on March 13. We are 1/2 game ahead at 1-4. A week from today we’ll know a lot more.

There is still a TON of ball to be played this year, so there's no reason to overreact. Right now on a down slope, but hopefully the winning (or at least playing well) will return soon.
But I'll be interested to see where the program is in 1-2 years - then we'll have a much better picture of coaching front.

UOP is not Stanford. Pretty sure you know that. Agree that it’s too early.
Think it was in context of Muir being good/bad as an AD that posters opined that Muir made a great hire in baseball.
Just think it's too early to tell, even with last season.

The thing is that whether Esquer turns out to be a great hire or middling one (or even if he descends into disaster), there is already more than enough cause to fire Muir.
I think there is a mistaken tendency that once a conclusion has been reached on a person, everything is viewed through that lens. In truth life is never that neat, and great people can sometimes screw up while incompetent people sometimes make good decisions. With regards to Muir, I think the totality of the evidence, even allowing for some good hiring decisions, does not change that assessment. Esquer could turn things around and win the CWS this year and I would still believe Muir’s other bad decisions outweigh a potentially great coaching hire.
As for Esquer, I wouldn’t let a bad start to a season outweigh his generally positive accomplishments to date. Again, I think he has exceeded expectations based on the totality of evidence so far, notwithstanding *gestures wildly* this.

Give me a BREAK, with this talk about the coaching hire. Wasn't it just last year that this program was in the CWS??? YES, this team is playing bad, but I think it has a lot to do with how Brock Jones is playing. Someone else needs to step up and take that supporting role. Jones is not playing up to the standards set by all his press, and the team is reacting to it! What else is Jones' doing to help this team out?
I am sure with Jones' speed, he has the green light on the base paths. Is Jones using the fact that he is being walked so many times, to steal that base and put himself in scoring position? It's not all about the longball, it is other areas of the game that he should be utilizing to help this team! Damn, they put that shift on him, and he is taking strikes on the outer third of the plate. How about hitting against the shift, or laying one down to get on?
This program has won a Pac title, hosted 2 regionals, and gone to the CWS in the last 4 years, and this was a questionable hire??? What makes Garko so great. If Garko wanted to be a college HC, he would have stayed at UOP to show he could turn a program around and make it a contender, he bailed because it seems like he did not want to put in the work. Esquer was coaching in this conference before, so what makes everyone think that Garko could have come in here and do a better job?
Streaks like this happen in baseball, this team obviously has not made it easy on themselves. Good that WSU coming to town this weekend, and hopefully they can pull their heads out and play better ball. A series win will be good, and sweep would be better. This conference beats up on each other, so anything can happen. Oregon, they did not put that team away when they should have, they let that one get away from them. U of A, the same outcome, had the lead and then pissed it away. If they were getting boat raced every series, that would be a different story.
I would say U of A is sending a message to Jay Johnson for leaving!
