It was based on her mother's somewhat cryptic statement that "representation matters" if I recall correctly.  Fans often read too much into the few clues that are made available to us.  Clearly that was the case here--we may have over analyzed.  However, people who really do have inside information could put an end to all the speculation just by being transparent about what they know and how they know it.

I'm afraid I don't agree, just based on player well being.  Next year will be fine, but the travel arrangements for her junior and senior years will be horrific.  Frankly, I think UCLA and USC should never have been allowed to subject their "full time students" to those pressures, and it will be worst for basketball.  Those two schools sold the well being of their students for a bigger conference payout.

Cameron will have at least two chances to school Betts next season.

Looks like I'll be making a lot of trips to Westwood and watch Lauren continue to develop.

Playing against her in practice for a whole season will help with the scout next season, but until this whole transfer portal is closed, I am still worried about any other transfers… good luck to her, except against Stanford, and now I don’t really care to see her development or how she does at all. I do say that with bitterness, but I’m a Stanford fan and she’s no longer a Stanford player.

Not much more needs to be said.  Time to move forward from the spilt milk and speculation.

I think UCLA is a smart choice for Betts; and while disappointed to see her go, I will be a fan of hers at UCLA. Wishing her all the best. Big get for Cori.

I think it's premature to describe future travel arrangements as horrific for UCLA and USC WBB.  I know many Big-10 WVB teams travel by charter.  They pretty much leave an airport on their schedule, not waiting for available commercial flights, and fly directly  to their destination.  The money is available for it.  Also the Big 10 may come up with some creative schedules to minimize travel for Olympic sports.   It won't be as easy as flying to PAC-12 schools but also probably not that much worse.

As for Betts, I'm glad she's at UCLA.  It will be interesting for me to see how she does next year.  I don't hold anything against her.  Whatever her reasons for leaving Stanford, I'm sure she and her parents believed them to be good reasons.

To me the big downside is coaches using this for recruiting purposes; telling sought after recruits; "Well Stanford has good academics but a #1 player thought that wasn't enough to override other deficiencies in the Stanford WBB program.

I didn’t call any person specifically ignorant and concerning your quotes on Betts. Brink had better worry about staying out of foul trouble against her and this year there is no Betts , Fran or Ash if that happens and don’t forget she got to play against Brink everyday in practice so I’m sure knows her game better than anyone .
It’s amazing how one day people love a kid and the next wish the worst on her.

and vice versa! Brink said in an interview that she and Belibi took Betts under their wing this year as their personal project, and that Betts is very very tough to go against in practice.

RE: WBB: Lauren Betts and Agnes Emma-Nnopu in Transfer Portal - BosCard - 04-18-2023

I’m not so sure the grass will be greener at UCLA for Betts.  They played a lot of 5 out last year with Rice, Osborne, Jones, Jacquez and Bessoir to open up driving lanes and that is just not Betts’ game.  Plus she has to compete with post playing time with Dugalic (out this year), Sontag and Iwuala (both played a decent amount this year) and incoming freshman Muse.

RE: WBB: Lauren Betts and Agnes Emma-Nnopu in Transfer Portal - chimera - 04-18-2023

I would say good luck to Betts but I don't know her, so I don't care what she does at UCLA one way or the other aside from curiosity about how it will work out.  I wonder if their style will suit her.  Their offenses have been more guard oriented.  Will they want a slower offense that looks to pound the ball inside a lot?  Eh whatever.  I am doing my best to never give a crap about any individual players or teams aside from curiosity and entertainment value.  I should start signing my posts - semi-ex-WCBB fan struggling to disengage and no longer give a crap.

RE: WBB: Lauren Betts and Agnes Emma-Nnopu in Transfer Portal - old spanish trail - 04-18-2023

I think Betts will be perfect for the Bruins. She gives them way more flexibility and will develop into a monster in the post. Was Betts part of that US junior team that Close coached that included Rice?

RE: WBB: Lauren Betts and Agnes Emma-Nnopu in Transfer Portal - thetreerulesall - 04-18-2023

Um maybe they had to play like this because of personnel ???
I’m guessing there was conversations about this before she committed and just didn’t commit blindly ?

So they are going to change the way they play to accommodate her style so she can play big minutes even though they still have basically the same personnel including another year of Osborne, who needs the ball a lot, and three more of Rice, plus all those other posts?  Might happen, definitely might happen.

Betts will have to become a better perimeter defender if she is going to play major minutes.  Otherwise teams are going to switch guards on to her and drive right by.

Sure. Why not? Close is a good coach and will make good use of her.

Lol
You mean like every good guard did against Stanford all season and Betts didn’t play .
No need to be bitter
Be happy the “slow project “ is gone plus the other McDonald’s All American you had and live with what you have left .

The stats are clear - Stanford was better with Betts in the line up
