Cardinal have stranded runners in scoring positions in multiple consecutive innings. The difference has been the lack of productive outs with runners on base.
Stanford advances to the regional final, with a gritty 2-1 win over Mississippi State. NiJaree was brilliant, with 13K's and throwing a complete game 3 hitter. The lone mistake was a solo homerun. Otherwise, the potent Bulldog lineup was overmatched.
Stanford gets much needed rest the rest of the day, and will return to action tomorrow at 2pm PT.
Apparently 70 pitches yesterday were few enough to not limit her at all today. It certainly solved my pitching worries for this game.
Overall solid defense, decent hitting though they couldn’t string anything together today and one unfortunate bad baserunning error that probably didn’t cost them.
Is Nija going to pitch both games tomorrow if necessary?
Krause's struggle yesterday makes that an interesting question. I think Regan gets the start tomorrow, but if she runs into (any) trouble, I am sure NiJaree would come in.

That was my initial thought as well but if Nija is able to pitch in extended relief, why not just start her and go all in on the first game?
ETA: Fullerton is up 3-0 in the fifth. If Fullerton is the opponent tomorrow, I'd try and start Regan.

If the game is truly out-of-hand (and not a win-or-go-home game), Coach Allister has shown to turn to the other pitchers on the staff (Alyssa Houston and Kylie Chung).
It's official (that harkens to the repeated matchups in baseball): Stanford and Fullerton will face off in the regional final tomorrow.

Agree, the situation really illustrates how important at least some pitching depth is the game. We need someone to step up now that we are in the end game, and show they can get people out at least fairly consistently. You can have all the hitters in the world, but if you can't get the other side out you are toast.

Krause coming unglued again. You likely have to chock this up as a loss with CSFs pitcher cruising. In fairness there has been a lot of weak stuff landing in the right place, but this team is going to be limited if they only have 1 effective pitcher.
4-1 CSF right now.
And that was the chance to get back into it. Wasted unfortunately.

Only good thing of the day is we avoided the slaughter rule and CSFs ace has to pitch one more inning.

We need a second reliable pitcher (Captain obvious moment) and more hitting. If we didn't have the best NCAA pitcher, I'm not sure we make the postseason.
From what I have seen, it's rely on Canady to pitch a gem and get 1 or 2 runs to win the game. That's not sustainable in the WCWS.

You are spot-on. I was going to post almost the exact same thoughts. We do not have WCWS level hitting at this point.

Big third inning for NiJaree. Strikes out the side and looks dominant. Bats already got two hits, and this contest is far from over. Hopefully we can capitalize on NiJaree's energy.

And NiJaree's energy picks up the Stanford bats, as they send 9 batters to plate, bat around, and score 4. Two CS Fullerton pitchers chased, and Cardinal have a 4-2 lead heading to the 4th.
Long way to go, but what a response from the Cardinal on both sides of the ball in that inning.

NiJaree is amazing. She sparked this rally by striking out the side in the third, and her infectious energy carried over to her team. A blunder by the Cal State Fullerton head coach turning to a redshirt freshman instead of one of her two aces (honestly, I wouldn't have pulled the starter after the Kyra Chan fielder's choice) was the deciding factor. The reliever only records one out, commits an error, and gives up Aly Kaneshiro's game winning double. The second reliever (who is the second ace for Fullerton) did a solid job, but the damage had already been done.
Looking ahead to the LSU Tigers, Stanford will host Super Regionals Friday-Sunday (Friday is 7:00pm PT, and Saturday scheduled for 6:00pm PT). LSU, at least with their pitching staff, has a very similar situation to Stanford: ace pitcher who is markedly their number one arm, and then #2 and #3's with noticably higher ERAs (Stanford fans will recognize #3 arm Kelley Lynch, who has confused Stanford when she was pitching for the Washington Huskies).
Offensively, this also a pretty comparable team: sub .300 BA, draw a lot of walks for a high OBP, and not the best power team in the country (.428 team slugging percentage).
On account of a slightly better power hitting team, and a better ace than theirs (and home field), I think Stanford wins this series and goes to OKC. But it likely be (very) close, and management of the respective rotations could very well decide things, like I believe it did today.

NiJaree Canady is incredible! Her 3 strikeouts in the 3rd inning was big and turned around the game. I hope she doesn’t get poached by another team. How do I donate to NIL effort to keep NiJaree? This team would be so much better if Vawter got into a grad program at Stanford. Excited for super.

After watching her this weekend, I can only conclude she is a robo-pitcher. Superhuman.

Yup congrats to the team. They put together the one solid offensive inning they needed.
I like the odds in a 3 game super regional series, but Canady pitching alone can’t win a CWS.
