Good playing by Stanford except setting from the back row on broken plays needs to improve.  If you have no control on those kind of plays then keep the ball off the net so the hitter can it least do something with it.

18 blocks in 3 sets for Stanford.  Utah State had 24 kills and 22 hitting errors.  And six aces versus eight serving errors for Stanford.  I’ll take that.

I have to ask what may well be a stupid question.  Are we simply writting off all applicants from very small schools who do not have access to these classes?  There are still vast expanses of the USA where the towns are small, the schools smaller, and the education budgets even smaller.

There are not many top end recruits from small towns, given the way club VB is structured these days.

I think we are up to 13 service aces.

Hitting for the match is down to .359.  Not sure what is up with Jordyn Harvey, but she is hitting -.091, against UC Davis.  The two middles are dominant; both are hitting over .500.

A rarity: I was at the game. About as expected. Sayer, Etzler, and Parks all got significant time. Byalshov and Parks started iirc. Parks led the team in assists (23) and aces (4). Parks and Etzler were 1 and 2 in aces and assists. They were also 1 and 2 in digs, but Etzler was #1.

Was disappointed in the crowd size. UC Davis brought a small but very loud contingent. Total attendance was a little over 50% of capacity. The Stanford crowd was louder. 

Sorry for my semi-coherent rambling. Gotta get my game face back on.

In the Chalk Talk, Coach Hambly said he wanted Blyashov to get some playing time, so that they have three good options at OH.  She started and played the whole match.  Had some very emphatic kills, too.  Looked pretty good (against a weak opponent, to be sure).  
Rubin the other OH (Kurt sat).  Hambly indicated they need Rubin's leadership on the floor, at least right now.

Koko Kirsch had an 11 point service run in the first set.
Malyssa Cawa also got playing time as a serving/defensive sub.

Unfortunately, Reese Dunkle, the other freshman middle, is out for the season.  Still in a boot and using crutches.

USA Team for NORCECA "Final Six" - four of fourteen from Stanford:

NORCECA is the North America/Central America/Caribbean "continental" region for international volleyball.
Not sure what this tournament is for.  (Apparently the top six teams in the region.)
Often continental competitions provide an entry path to world championships, etc.

Kentucky dropped from #3 to #6, moving Stanford up to #4 (and Louisville to #3).

Pitt moved up two spots, to #5, since Wisconsin also dropped one spot.

Next Sunday's opponent, UCLA, dropped out of the top 25 (had been #24).
