Which three Power 5 schools are the only one’s that have not been ranked in the AP Football Top 10 so far this century?
RE: Sports trivia thread -
Phogge - 11-01-2021
Duke, Vanderbilt and Illinois.
RE: Sports trivia thread -

I’ll say Oregon State not Illinois

Phogge - 11-01-2021
I think that Oregon State under Erickson the year they trounced the South Benders in the Orange Bowl were very highly ranked.

Two down, one to go…
Duke and Vandy are correct. Illinois, Oregon State? Nope.
By the way, Illinois is tied with Maryland for fourth place on the drought list (since 2001).

My guesses would have been, swearing that I didn't look them up:
Vanderbilt, Indiana, Virginia.
I thought Duke might have crept into the top 10 in 2014, the year they played a high-level bowl game against ASU, but I guess they didn't quite make it.

Think Indiana was ranked last season. Think Virginia was ranked with George Welsh as coach in 2006 or 7.
Still thinking.
OK. Either Syracuse or Maryland, with programs with their best teams in the 50's and 60's.

Syracuse!
The top five are:
Vandy 10-13-47
Duke 9-1-62
Syracuse 9-2-86
Illinois 12-9-01
Maryland 12-9-01
Not bad, Phogge…….
Another AP Football Poll query…
Which five Power 5 teams have the longest current “not listed in the season’s
final Top 25” drought?
Clue: None of the five teams (Vandy, Duke, Syracuse, Illinois, Maryland) mentioned in the previous question are in the mix in this category.

Believe it or not…. No.
KU was last ranked in the Final Top 25 in 2007.
All five schools noted in the question were last ranked in the Final Top 25 in 2006 or earlier…

When Roger Bannister cracked the 4-minute mile -- supposedly an unachievable time -- he held the world record. For how long did he hold that record?

Bannister held the unbreakable sub-4 minute mile world record for 46 days before John Landy of Australia ran a 3:57.9 in Turku, Finland. He later lost to Bannister by 0.2 seconds at the 1954 Commonwealth Games.
The Boston Braves (1914), Milwaukee Braves (1957) and Atlanta Braves (1995, 2021) just won their 4th world series championship.
