Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 01-14-2016

I'm disappointed in the decommitments because it sucks for the kids, but those who are concerned about Stanford's DB recruiting should not fret too much.  Remember that Stanford is probably the most desirable spot in the country for DBs right now.  The program has one of the top position coaches in the business, plus a significant alumni presence in the NFL, including a high-profile superstar (Richard Sherman) and a number of others (Carter, Richards, Reynolds, and Thomas).  As a result, Stanford had plenty of traction with DBs this year who've chosen other schools.  We don't really know what happened with those recruits or whether they remain realistic possibilities in light of the recent decommitments, but I would not discount the likelihood of landing at least 1 stealth.

Robbie Robinson has a 4+ GPA and loved Stanford, but chose the honors program at ASU.  Brittain Brown is listed as a RB or ATH, but he's probably best suited to safety, and he loved Stanford, but committed to Duke just before an offer arrived.  Then add Jordan Griffin, who committed to UK very early, but has taken some other visits.  And Andrew Pryts seemed high on Stanford this summer when he visited on his own dime.  There are some others who turned down Stanford a while ago and who could theoretically revive their dormant recruitment, such as Troy Warner, Madre Harper, Taylor Rapp, and Dylan Singleton.

Of course, depending on how the stealths work out, there's also Micah Croom, who would love to come to Stanford if an offer were to materialize.

So, it's hardly doom and gloom at this point, though I do feel badly for the Stanford recruits/commits who find themselves in difficult situations due to academic hurdles.

What is this based on? I find posts like this incredibly annoying, if you're not comfortable saying WHY you're so certain then why are you posting it?

I thinks some posters have earned their credibility.  It doesn't mean they can't be wrong, but usually if they post something, I take it at face value.

Re: Class of 2016 - PrinceLightfoot - 01-14-2016

The number of Stanford admits who do not end up committing to Stanford can be counted on one's hands this decade (Jordan Zumwalt, Brennan Scarlett, Jameis Winston, Durham Smythe, Uriah Leiataua, ?). With that in mind, this is what I see from interviews and social media.

Eboh - Stanford flip. The response from current commits when he announced his admittance was like those of long time friends. I suspect he has been part of the group chat they have formed for a long time. Agree with TrumpCard that coming to our Big Visit weekend instead of Texas' weekend screams flip.

McCulloch - Signing Day commitment to Stanford. Watch this interview which was a couple weeks before receiving the good news from Montag Hall.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZgikQAHoJY)

He is looking for stability and the in-state programs are not delivering on that front; "it is not going as planned". Alabama is stable with Saban at the helm and has an elite football program but academics is extremely important to him. The end of the interview is very telling.

Robertson - not going to happen, 0%. Not an interview or article written from Stanford recruiting media concerning this recruit since midsummer. Considering the top10 recruit status, one would think those who provide us Stanford specific recruiting information would have written at least one article that follow-up on his progress with Stanford in recent months. He tells UGA outlets that we are the lead, but I agree with BobK that he just wants the Stanford hat on the table.

I actually don't really care that much, I think following the exploits and twitter accounts of a bunch of a 17-year-olds is really goddamn creepy and wish that recruiting were way, way, way more lowkey than it is. I normally just mark this thread as read. But I also think that the way you've been posting about this is extremely annoying. If you're not comfortable giving your rationales for something, don't say anything. It's just rude.

Re: Class of 2016 - StanfordMatt - 01-14-2016

Obviously you do care that much or you wouldn't be complaining about it. I don't subscribe to Rivals but I appreciate any tidbits those who do are able to pass our way. I also respect Andy's work and understand why it wouldn't be fair to him to share everything. I don't find this to be rude at all.

If you do not care that much, then why ask?

I follow twitter because the information is directly from the players. Do you believe the entire recruiting industry is "goddamn creepy" for following what is essentially public megaphones for prospective college athletes? Who wouldn't rather see unfiltered statements and/or actions instead of receiving a prepared article that may contain spin? It seems like you do not use Twitter, but have concluded it is just for creepers.

Bobk did give his rationale on a public forum. If you want to know more, pay for a subscription. He isn't forcing you to do it.

Thanks Prince.

Here's an interesting story from longhorn nation.  I'll go still with Trump's thoughts though

I complained because people do it on other topics too. I've complained about it before and I'll probably complain about it again. I just think it's really chickenshit to say something that you refuse to back up.

And if you think that paying money and spending tons of time so you can follow what a bunch of 17-year-olds say isn't weird or creepy, well, okay then. But if you explained the college football recruiting coverage industry to an outsider, they'd think it's insane. Because it is.

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 01-14-2016

Twitter indicates that Eboh got his wisdom teeth out and will miss the big visit. Too bad but I still think stanford will get him.

Is it possible that it might affect his admission status if we determine he is lacking wisdom?

OK, for those who have a Twitter Decoder Ring - Redrum - 01-15-2016

help me out because I don't have one.  I thought Herbig was lost.  Dunno where I got that. Maybe a report that he'd heard from Montag.  But what does the Herbig twitter mean?  He did get accepted?

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 01-15-2016

Twitter = tea leaves.  It just allows us to guess what's really happening.  Nate Herbig still seems to be in the game, but it's not clear whether that means he's actually admitted.  Bo Peek tweeted an emoticon with tears of joy.  Admission?  Again, who knows?

One thing we do know is that Curtis Robinson got his fifth star on 247 today.  So he's now a five star on Rivals and 247, ranked #53 overall on Scout, and very under-rated on ESPN (which is always late to the party).  Sounds like Stanford snagged a really good player here.

Herbig is not lost. He's at Stanford this weekend with several other recruits.
