Yup, it was Sandy Lyle, when asked about Tiger Woods.

The Santa Clara flash, Alyn Beals.  Also UCLA...BTW, 49er founder Morabito was an SCU grad, too...

Interesting team, that first 49er team. Lots of west coast players. 4 Stanford Indians, 3 WSU Cougars, 2 Trojans, 7 Broncos, one each from St. Mary's, USF, SJSU, Oregon State, and UCLA.

Mr Norberg was such a kindly guy. I did have the impression he might have taken one too many noggin hits.

Sadly he passed at the age of 53.

Some defensive trivia…

Who holds the MLB career record for outfield putouts?
Who holds the MLB career record for outfield assists?

Who is the active leader in each category?

Career putouts - Willie Mays

RE: Sports trivia thread - BobK - 11-25-2021

Career assists. The Babe

RE: Sports trivia thread - Phogge - 11-25-2021

Career assists has to be Speaker. Played very shallow and is the career leader in outfielder unassisted double plays.

RE: Sports trivia thread - BobK - 11-25-2021

The only one on the Career list top 50 who played after 1950 is Clemente

Babe about # 44

RE: Sports trivia thread - Phogge - 11-25-2021

Just looked at OF assists. Yep, Speaker is first. Clemente tied for 17th, Ruth 48th, Aaron 51st.

Mays tops in PO. Speaker, Henderson, Max Carey, Cobb top five. Plenty of post 50’s players in top 50.

RE: Sports trivia thread - Phogge - 11-25-2021

What Stanford TE pitched for the Indian baseball team and shutout SF State 7-0?

Bobbbbbbbb don't answer right away.

RE: Sports trivia thread - BobK - 11-25-2021

I presume the mid to late 60s but i
dunno
Mark Marquess played both then 1B and DB

RE: Sports trivia thread - Phogge - 11-26-2021

John Mason. I think 1966. Yours truly not on the mound that day.

RE: Sports trivia thread - BobK - 11-26-2021

Sure don’t remember

RE: Sports trivia thread - Mick - 11-27-2021

How many former Giants are on the recently-released 2022 Hall of Fame ballot?

Who are they?

RE: Sports trivia thread - Phogge - 11-27-2021

Bonds, Lincecum....

RE: Sports trivia thread - BobK - 11-27-2021

Maybe Jeff Kent still

RE: Sports trivia thread - qwerty49 - 11-27-2021

HOF ballot is rigged.  Otherwise "Boo" would be a lock.

RE: Sports trivia thread - Mick - 11-27-2021

Bonds, Lincecum, Kent, all correct.  Five more.

BTW, not sports trivia there are two actresses who have achieved an Oscar, an Emmy, a Grammy and a Tony and who have achieved individual Oscar, Emmy and Tony awards.  Any idea who they are?

Rita Moreno was the first. Interesting that Spielberg is remaking West Side Story and he cast her in an older role.
