Stanford has a graduate school of education, which is considered one of the best in the country.
Obviously happy for McClure and I wish her the best of luck. It just would have been nice if her educational ambitions would have coincided with playing at Stanford next year, where I think we have the potential to be much more competitive.

I think it might be better for Stanford to opt out of the balance of the season. This is getting embarrassing for the Stanford WVB program; either cancelling games or putting a disorganized wreck of a team on the court.
The level of volleyball being played by Stanford is so low I have to confess I've lost interest. I never thought I would say that but then I never envisioned Stanford VB reaching such depths in their play on the court.
I still think Hambly is an outstanding coach. Oftentimes fans' opinions of a coach's ability to coach swings wildly based on how well the team is doing.
As an example, back when Penn State won four NCs in a row PSU fans insisted the coach, Russ Rose, was the best coach in the history of sport. Now that PSU is not doing so well and won't make the NCAA tournament PSU fans question and criticize his every decision.
Did Rose suddenly become a much worse coach? No the difference is he doesn't have as talented players as in the past.

I think the season, which is a wreck, should just be regarded as an opportunity for player development through practices and games. Why pass up that opportunity, and who cares about the W/L record at this point in this season? Unfortunate for all the players, but in partial compensation they all get an extra year of eligibility if they want. McClure is moving on and has 2 NCAA championships to remember, and she is the kind of high-character person who will take on the responsibility of being the senior leader and helping pass on the culture.

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. My point that staying at Stanford would not have precluded getting a Masters in Education, since Stanford has a School of Education (and a very good one at that). Of course, given that she is picking Hopkins, she may well have concluded that she will end her volleyball career.

The Blue Jays were 35-0 in 2019 and won the Division III national championship. They know how to play, and she'd be a standout! Their tallest players are 6'-2"

Well, it's not indoors and its not the current players, but Stanford alum Alix Klineman will definitely be going to the Olympics if she stays healthy and there is a 2021 Olympics beach volleyball event.

That is Tom Brady-like durability. Kerry Walsh and I overlapped at Stanford, and I struggle to get out of bed in the morning, let alone play beach volleyball at the highest levels.
Also, Ross/Klineman's biggest competitors are a pair of Canadians, eh?

I'd imagine if you were strongly considering TFA, you would not also be strongly considering Stanford School of Ed.

As of today the Friday match with ASU is still on. Stanford is 70-5 against the Sun Devils. ASU has a losing season thus far (4-10). This is the best chance for Stanford to end the season with more than one win.
Game is at 4:00 pm Friday on Stanford livestream.
One hopeful aspect about this disastrous season is only two players in WVB program history left Stanford before getting their degree. One player left after her freshman year due to homesickness and moved back to Michigan. That was about 25 years ago and she eventually came back to Stanford for her masters. The other player, Logan Tom, left for the Olympics and to play professionally.
Some players did quit the team and continue at Stanford. Other than Formico and Halland McKenna, I can't recall any other player quitting the team who was in line to get playing time as a starter. And there was one player who got kicked off the team but was allowed to stay at Stanford on scholarship to finish her degree.
So based on track record WVB players in general will be motivated to hang around for the Stanford degree in spite of the horrific spring season.
