Giants get another well pitched game. And win. Nice to see Webb throw well. And someone besides Rogers effective in the 8th. Rogers has been terrific. But he’s on a pace for about 95 games.

Just a negotiating ploy by the A’s. By having MLB send the message, they can say, “Hey, it isn’t us being the bad guy, it is Uncle Rob who is rattling sabers”. Fisher is as sleazy an owner as any in the game. I hope Oakland stands up to his bluff and tells him to move his sorry butt if he thinks he can get a better deal.

The Warriors were outta Oakland regardless of what the city might have offered. However, the Raiders were a different story. Their extortion plot failed. I salute Oakland for standing firm. There are quite a number of far more important issues in the city that need to be addressed. Time to focus on those.

The Giants won 3-1 today, their third win in a row, and they're 23-14. Second best record in the majors, best in the NL, and they're ahead of the Padres by 2.5 games and ahead of the Dodgers by 3.0 games.
Today's unlikely hero was the oft-maligned Steven Duggar who got the win and is 3-1. Rogers got his third save. And in a somewhat interesting flash to the past, Chris Stratton (who lead the Giants' awful 2018 staff with 10 wins in his only season as a full-time starter) pitched for the Pirates. He's improved considerably since he left the Giants. His WHIP is down, his strikeouts are 11.7 per 9 innings. And he did pretty well against the Giants.
Slater pinch-hit and struck out. He's second on the team with 37 strikeouts (Belt leads with 38).

Rogers brings up memories of the famous Bob Fesler Experiment. Bobbbbbbb will remember this 1955 event put together by the Seattle Rainiers. Fesler was perhaps the greatest softball pitcher in history, certainly in the Northwest. The Rainiers, going nowhere in the PCL, signed him to a contract after he dazzled manager Fred Hutchinson in a tryout. His first appearance against the Seals resulted in a strikeout of Jimmy Moran but it went downhill from there. He delivered the ball underhanded with speed and deception but couldn’t find the plate. His career ended after four games. 46 feet was ideal for his softball control but 60’6” was a mile away.

Partly I was just losing it over the SCU win, and partly my mind still can't wrap itself around "Steven Duggar" and "home run" in the same sentence. Still, he's 6th on the Giants in OPS. Maybe he finally arrived. Here's hoping....

MLB overall batting ave around .230. Lower than ‘68. Shifts gotta go. And while I get this philosophy of taking pitches etc, I’m a little tired of hearing how a guy hitting .210 is having great abs cause he sees a lot of pitches.

Pretty interesting article in the Athletic as to how MLB was alarmed by the increase in home runs in 2019, and set out to create a baseball that was less lively. They changed the physical properties of the baseball to make it lighter and more likely to stay in the yard. The stated aim was that balls that were hit 375 feet or more would travel 1-2 feet shorter. In recent years, the COR (coefficient of restitution -- bounciness) was supposed to be in the .530 to .570 range, but was trending toward the upper part of the range. The new ball is 2.8 grams lighter.

“In 2019, fly balls hit between 100-104 mph and at a 20-24 degree launch angle went for outs (including sac flies) just 18% of the time; using the inverse, hitters would reach base 82% of the time when they’d connect. In 2021, however, hitters are reaching base just 65% of the time. That’s still a solid figure, but it provides further evidence that, rather than convert home runs into other types of base hits, MLB has only reduced offense overall. That’s not a shocking conclusion, but at least it is consistent.”
