Yes! Congrats to Beck on the shutout and CG.
OSU has been a thorn in our side for a while now. Nice to start out the series with a win.

D1 Baseball - 9th
Baseball America -10th
NCBWA - 12th
Collegiate Baseball - 9th
USA Today Coaches' Poll - 12th
RPI - 13th
Stanford is ahead of Oregon in all but NCBWA and USA Today which both have Oregon #9 and Stanford #12.
There seem to be lots of baseball polls.
There are some tournament field projections out.
D1Baseball has Stanford as the overall #9 seed, with UC Irvine* as the #2 in the Stanford regional.
Baseball America has Stanford as the overall #12 seed, with UC Irvine as the #2 in the Stanford regional.
There are several other projections out there, but many seem extremely unreliable - they do things like list teams that didn't make the qualifying list of 20 as regional hosts.
With a loss by East Carolina, Stanford up to #12 in RPI after Tuesdays games.
Hosting and seeding rival South Carolina also lost early in the SEC tournament.
*Stanford took 3 of 4 from UC Irvine at Sunken Diamond in early March. UC Irvine has gone on to a 3 game lead in the Big West - I think they need one win this weekend to win their conference title outright.
I guess now, Stanford will play to host, I am doubting the chances of getting a share of that Pac title with that missed series against UW!!!! Oregon is going to sweep Cal, with they way that game looked yesterday. Cal may be overmatched. Would have helped if Oregon was ending the season against OSU!!!!

If the top 16 (roughly speaking) host, then if Stanford wins one more game in this series, they're a lock to host a regional. Now, if they do something really amazing by winning the next two games, that would give them a great shot of finishing in the top 7 or 8 in the country, thus putting them in a position to possibly get a Super Regional host site.

Stanford cannot get a share of the league title, which has been true since last Sunday evening. UA has finished their conference season at 21-9, and the best Stanford can possibly get to is 18-9.
If Oregon sweeps cal, then they share the league title but Arizona gets the automatic bid based on winning the head to head series.
This morning, Stanford has risen to #11 in the RPI, with poll rankings from 9 to 12. They should be in good shape to host a regional, with an outside chance at a top 8 seed. Rooting interests: Stanford wins, losses for Notre Dame, Mississippi State, Tennessee, TCU, Texas Tech.
So today (Friday):
TCU beat Texas Tech 7-2.
Texas Tech lost again to Kansas State 2-7.
Notre Dame lost to UVa 1-16.
Tennessee beat Alabama 11-0.
Mississippi State has been knocked out of the SEC tournament, went 0-2.

Woohoo! Stanford wins, 5-0. That's another series we've won, against an opponent who has had our number in recent years. It's also our second straight shutout. Let's hope the pitching staff is peaking at the right time.
Just a sterling performance all around. Good defense, great pitching, and good production at the plate - 11 hits, with Brock Jones going 3 for 3 and I think he got on base at all four plate appearances. Let's get our first series sweep tomorrow. We're due.

CTcard - 05-29-2021
With the win, Stanford rose to tied for 10th in RPI, tied with Notre Dame. [This is effectively tied for ninth, since Fairfield is #2 but not a factor.]
Still think a top 8 seed is less likely than yes, but it's getting closer.
With a win today, Stanford is no worse than tied for second in the conference.
With a loss, Stanford is alone in third no matter any other result.
Question for the day: Is Zach Grech now Stanford's third starter?
RPI moves and oddities:
- Fairfield in the MAAC has been #2 in RPI for awhile. While playing in a small conference that was COVID restricted to conference-only games, they were something like 35-1 in their regular season. However, they have lost twice in their conference tournament (now 37-3), which still leaves them in the #2 RPI spot.
They must have fallen a lot, which means #1 Arkansas must be way ahead of the field.
There will probably be a rare MAAC two-team contingent in the tournament since Rider beat Fairfield for the conference title.
- Arizona drops 3 spots to 8th after losing a game to Dixie State (from the Dixie region of Utah, not the south).
- Notre Dame dropped from 10th to a tie for 10th after losing to Virginia.
- Texas Tech dropped from 6th to 9th after dropping two games yesterday. That's likely whom we have to beat out for a National top 8 seed.
- Mississippi State somehow rose two spots, from 9th to 7th, after not playing. Earlier this week they got blown out twice in the SEC tournament.

No real idea how this works, but...
https://www.warrennolan.com/baseball/2021/rpi-predict
Stanford is predicted to beat Oregon State today and achieve the #8 RPI position. If Fairfield isn't being considered as earmarked to host a Super Regional, then it would seem the odds are Stanford will get a Top 8 seed and be in Super Regional hosting position.
A couple weeks ago it seemed Stanford was just shooting to be a Regional host. Now that is a certainty and a top 8 seed seems most likely.
General question about the NCAA tournament: If a top 8 seed loses its Regional, who hosts the Super Regional? Is it still held at the school selected to host it, even if it doesn't win its Regional?

IIRC, the highest remaining seed in the group of eight teams associated with the Super Regional gets to host. Which is always or almost always the host of the other Regional. I wonder if there's ever been an instance where both regional hosts failed to win.
RE: Stanford Baseball -
Ballbuster - 05-29-2021
Wow, Cal pulled off the upset last night and now Oregon has no shot at a share of the Pac. I am all for getting as many teams in from the Pac, however, if OSU loses today, they will end up at 15 and 15. Cal would have to win to have a better conference record, however, if Cal loses, and ends up at 15 and 15, who should get in? I think Cal is outside looking in if they don't win today! I don't think they will pick a 7th team from the Pac.
Must be great for Esquer to come here and set his sights on not only a regional, but always in contention for the Pac, while at Cal, and seems like that mentality is still the same today. Play good enough to get to a regional with a Pac title totally out of focus!!!

As a Mizzou fan about 13 or 14 years ago, I saw Mizzou lose to Louisville as a non-national seed host, after the opposing national seed had lost and opened up the possibility of Mizzou hosting a Super Regional. It doesn't happen all that often, but it happens.

You never want to get stuffed in your last regular season game; but today we were playing for draw. We have done enough to host a regional in the first round, however, the joy will be fleeting if we get slammed into Vanderbilt in the next round.

Stanford wins the series but the RPI falls to 14. I think this is a good time to respect the hell out of the resiliency that this team has shown. Last year we were 5-11. This year, 33-14 and 3rd place in conference.
This team found ways to win in spite of the fact that they ranked 5th in conference games in batting average, 8th in on-base percentage and 6th in slugging percentage. Pitching-wise, we were 7th in Ks/9 and 5th in ERA. In spite of yesterday's performance we did finish 2nd in fielding percentage.
Brendan Beck is a superstar, but we'll go as far as our #2 and #3 starters take us. Grech as #2 and Williams as #3, maybe? Dixon as the closer, and Palisch and O'Rourke first out of the bullpen?

Totally agree!!!! The job that Esquer has done with this team after last years start, thumbs up! I am sure no one on that coaching staff had an idea how this was going to turn out with all the restrictions and protocols at the start of the year.
