Vawter tried hard to stay and Jessica tried hard to keep her but sadly grad school wasn’t available for her. Nor other options were available. It happens when one graduates

Just found this podcast which came out yesterday. She mentions at 43:45 mark her reasons for leaving. She said she wasn't accepted to grad school at Stanford and didn't want to stay for a fifth year just to take random classes. Sounds like she is doing sports management MBA at South Carolina.

Re my post-season recordings of softball. ESPN decided they didn't want to archive the second game against Fullerton. I was stupid to rely on them. If anyone has a source for video of that game, I'd appreciate the link.

An inauspicious start for Stanford. NiJaree Canady gives up 3 runs, 2 earned, before settling in and striking out the last 2 batters. Fullerton had, when they scored their 2 runs, been sitting on the off-speed. This time, LSU was sitting on the rise ball and heat. Canady possibly found something going to the off-speed and curve. Stanford's bats will have to step up to help out their pitcher.

LSU is getting good "wood" on the ball. They're making Canady look human. This is a game where the offense needs to show up.

Canady and Coach Nyberg making good adjustments after a tough first inning. Stanford clawed one back in the first,
but Cardinal trail 3-1 heading to the bottom of the fourth.
A stunning 3 run HR by the #6 hitter in the LSU lineup, after NiJaree had dominated the bottom of the Tiger lineup, chases Canady and perhaps ends Game 1. 6-1 LSU T5.

I would think so, particularly after the first batter Krause faced went deep. 7-1 Tigers.

Sigh. Not a good night for the Cardinal on the diamond. The baseball team is fighting an uphill battle as well. AZ just has our number this season.

LSU getting their runs tonight. Doesn't matter if we lose by 1 or 12 so it won't make a difference for tomorrow's game (nor Sunday's).
Stanford is a one pitcher pony, so we have to go with Canady until her arm falls off.

Canady tomorrow
She was chased in the final regular season game last year (a run rule loss to Washington). The story finished up in the WCWS, where Canady was brilliant and led us to a 1-0 win over the Huskies.
The full story on this series hasn't been written yet. Hopefully, the team bounces back tomorrow.

Who knows how the game turns out if our shortstop handles that ground ball, gets the force at second, and maybe a double play. That kind of play can be a morale breaker or booster depending on whose side you are on. It didn't look like NiJaree's ball had as much movement as usual. Cold weather generally makes it harder for a pitcher to get the same spin and movement.

Wow what a fight. The way Nija got hit around last night, I thought the team would come out with low energy and defeated attitude. So glad to be wrong. The Stanford ladies fought and fought hard. I hope the team can come out even better tomorrow. I hope Nija has more in the tank.
