RE: Stanford Baseball 2025 - Madera86 - 03-16-2025

Sweep! Congrats to the team for their first sweep in the ACC.

This bullpen has done a pretty remarkable job of keeping runners from scoring. How many opposing runners got to third in this series but never made it to home?

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025 - Mick - 03-16-2025

#18 Stanford is currently third in the conference between undefeated Wake Forest and Florida State.

2025 Baseball Standings - Atlantic Coast Conference

NCAA RPI ranks Stanford #8 through games of March 13. My guess is Stanford moves up for tomorrow's poll.

Sorry if redundant but here’s Gostanford’s write-up on the Duke sweep

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025 - skip75 - 03-17-2025

Stanford moves up 4 spots to #14.

The top 4 are all from the SEC.  Other ACC teams in the top 25 are: Florida State still at #5; Clemson up 3 spots to #7; Wake Forest stays at #11; Louisville enters the top 25 at #16; UNC tumbles 11 spots to #17; and UVa remains at #23.

I don't want to sound ungrateful, but that seems insufficient to me for the team that has the second most wins in conference and won five of six from two solid ACC teams...

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025 - cardfan77 - 03-17-2025

East Coast bias. When Stanford won the series on the road against UNC, they entered the ranking at #18. However, Louisville won the series at home against UNC, and they entered the ranking at #16.

Stanford just needs to keep winning and hopefully be one of the top 8-seeded teams. It would be great if they could host regional and super regional.

I'm just a casual baseball fan, but did anyone notice the scores between Xavier and the three SEC teams they played? Xavier, which split a four-game series with Stanford, lost all five of their games against SEC competition (Tenn., LSU and Vandy x 3) by a combined score of 9-56.

Overall, Xavier is 8-13. My very uninformed opinion is that Stanford split the series with Xavier because that's baseball. Curious if others have thoughts about it.

ECMB. First commented on it in rec.sport.football.college iirc.

Early season.  Team still gelling.  Plus just one of those weekends.

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025 - CTcard - 03-17-2025

Stanford is ranked about right at this time. Most of the polls have Stanford at 14th. RPI has Stanford at 14th (today, changes daily).
RPI is unreliable at the moment and the polls are still biased from last year - but still Stanford's place seems reasonable.

Stanford's resume is a mixture of two good ACC series, plus two series wins and one draw against teams that are currently 6-13, 8-12, 8-13.
Stanford is 8th in the ACC in runs/game, 11th in ERA. There're some things to work on.
On the other side, Stanford sits at #2 in the ACC in fielding percentage. Of course that is a terrible stat to learn anything about defense.
My impression is that Stanford hasn't been a very good defensive team but seems to have picked it up lately.

Really glad to see a stronger outing from Lim. Still didn't have great stuff (4 hits, 5 free passes) but fought and only gave up 1 run. Much better than the previous several outings.
Volchko was off in the direction opposite to what I'm used to - gave up 8 hits but only 1 walk. But he never let it collapse.
Pitching story of the weekend was the bullpen: 10 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 1 BB. Everyone was good. I'll go with Trevor Moore as the reliever of the weekend at 2 perfect innings pitched.

Offense remains well distributed, and we're all psyched to see Sasaki breaking out. 7 of 9 regulars have at least 2 HR.
A little surprised that Hott didn't get another chance this weekend after going 3-5 with 2 HR and 3 RBI against Carolina.

Team has a lot of potential they're just starting to tap - but still a lot of development to go to be Omaha level.
Remain worried about travel. Four east coast trips to go. Of the current top ACC teams we don't play FSU and Louisville, have Wake at home and Clemson on the road. Also have UVa on the road, but given their record so far it's hard to determine if they're really a top ACC team despite still being ranked.
I'm looking forward to the BC series in May. The one benefit of being in the ACC is occasionally Stanford comes to my neck of the woods for conference games.

Yes, congrats to the team, its coaches and Mr. Sasaki.  I wonder if a few weeks from now no one will pitch to him.  Possible.  I thought our pitching and hitting just wouldn't cut it, but I am happily proven wrong up to now.  I also wrote off the softball team as a bunch of no hit, no pitch ladies.  Again, I happily eat my words.
Hats off to  the players and coaches of both teams.

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025 - skip75 - 03-21-2025

Another home series this weekend as Cal comes to Sunken Diamond.  The Bears are 10-10, 2-4 in the ACC, & 3-3 on the road.  Stanford leads the all-time series 221-116-1.

Cal went 1-2 both at Duke and at home vs. UVa.  They won both Friday games with sterling performances by Austin Turkington on the mound.  In the 2 games, the junior from Bellarmine pitched 13.2 innings (including a 7 inning complete game run rule win at Duke), gave up 2 runs (both earned) on 6 hits, 5 BBs, & 4 HBPs.  He struck out 17.  Gavin Eddy (redshirt freshman, 1.52 ERA, 1.01 WHIP) pitched well in both Saturday games, but was let down by lack of run support at Duke and by the bullpen in both games - especially last weekend when Cal took a 7-2 lead into the top of the 9th, only to lose 10-8.  Ethan Foley (sophomore out of Ohlone College) is 2-1 in 5 starts, but has only pitched 16.1 innings.  He did not take the loss at Duke, but got roughed up for 7 runs (4 earned) in the 2nd inning vs. UVa.

Cade Campbell (Jr 3B) leads the offense - .417/.425/.738, 6 HR, 24 RBI.  The middle infield features a pair of local sophomores - 2B Jarren Advincula from Mitty & SS PJ Moutzouridis from Valley Christian (former teammate of Tatum Marsh & Trevor Haskins).  Both were named to the 1st team Pac-12 All Freshman team last season.

Stanford's offensive production throughout the line-up, combined with solid work from the bullpen has led to 8 comeback wins.  The offense (.311/.399/.524, 7.94 runs/game) should give them an edge over Cal (.274/.354/.460, 6.85 runs/game).  Stanford's 10 bullpen pitchers have combined for a 7-0 record, 6 saves, and a 3.86 ERA in 81.2 innings.  Cal has used 14 arms out of the pen.  They appear to have at least 4 solid options, but a lot of inconsistency.  Their record is 4-6 & 4 saves with a 4.95 ERA in 111 innings.  This inconsistency might be epitomized, appropriately enough for Stanford fans, by David Shaw (Sr, by way of Texas & Rice).  He is 0-2 in 7 appearances, with a 5.60 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 23 Ks, 10 BBs (& 4 HBPs) in 17.2 innings.

Looks like the weather at Sunken Diamond will be cool & cloudy - similar to last weekend.  Hopefully the results will be the same!

6-0 kal in the bottom of the second. Sheesh. Finals fatigue?

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025 - JJJ - 03-21-2025

6-2 heading into B5. Chipping away…

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025 - cardfan77 - 03-21-2025

6-3. I like the fight. 4 innings left to win the game

Apparently, our bullpen is not invincible.

Anything can happen in a rivalry game. And it usually does.

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025 - fullmetal - 03-21-2025

Ugh, 3-13 loss in seven innings.  Finals ended yesterday.

Why am I getting a network error when trying to find the box score from GoStanford.com?  What fresh incompetence is this?

Link worked for me. Compared to ESPN, Gostanford is a beautiful site.

Black unis.
And tv is back to the one camera behind home plate. At least the camera operator is zooming in and out, trying to follow the action.

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025 - TonyLima - 03-22-2025

I swear this happens every year. After winter quarter finals week, it’s like they’re a different team. Am I just paranoid or have others noticed this?
