Interesting that Francis is serving which leaves her in the back.  She's doing quite well up front.
Kipp did quite well in the previous match, but mostly not playing today.

Lots of well aimed tips by the US.

Whoever is managing the cameras is showing Cuba 75% of the time between points.

After first set win, in second set USA is down 19-15.
Lots of not good passes leading to not good sets leading to poor spikes or weak tips.
Cuba has a rocket server that we were fortunate to break after a few points and an ace.

Apparently there are no cameras on the net or the lines and no procedure to overturn a call.

Kubik-Banks seems to be no Kipp.   There are times when no Stanford player is on the court.  Maybe a stomach bug? Or maybe developing depth.

Win one, lose one big, win one big, lose one close.
On to the 5th set.   I saw Kipp in the 3rd set, but not much.
Miner played the last part of the 4th set, but not the first part.

We were down 4 or 5 points in the 5th.  Back to tied at 8.

US wins in the 5th 15-10

Yes, indeed.

Friday:  Hawaii at 6:30pm (TSU vs. UCLA at 4pm, so this could be delayed, but I hope not.)
Saturday:  Texas State at 4:30pm (after UCLA vs. Hawaii at 2pm)
Sunday:  UCLA at 3:00pm (Hawaii vs. TSU at 11:00am)

It's unusual that Hawaii is playing pre-conference matches away from Oahu.
ETA:  I see they did away matches last year, too.  I guess things have changed.

Note that the TSU Bobcats are joining the Pac-12 next year.

Well I needed half of that time to logout of the espn app and unlink my tv provider in various combinations to get the app to show the game. Glad to see Disney has spent no time improving things over the last year.

welcome to my “I hate ESPN“ club. I have no cable subscription, everything is streaming. Needless to say, ESPN makes life interesting.

You have not lived until you’ve seen ESPN tell you you’re not entitled to watch a game.

Neither Harvey nor Kurt have been good today. Andrew and Rubin making up for it. But at least Harvey is hitting a positive number.

I am surprised Hambly isn’t doing more in match subbing at OP and OH. Kurt ended up hitting .000 with no blocks, no aces, 2 service errors and only 3 digs. And her passing was off as well. Putting Blyashov in somewhere in set 2 or at least 3 would have been very reasonable. It mostly seems like rotation though is for the entire match. I want to see hitters get subbed out at least some of the time on an off night.

Kurt's performance was certainly subpar.  Perhaps Hambly just wants each of his OHs to establish a rhythm with Parks setting.  Give Blyashov and Kurt each a match (or two) to play without having to worry about being subbed out.  Maybe if Stanford were in danger of losing the match, he'd have made a sub.
I think he said at a chalk talk last weekend that he'd like to be able to rest Rubin, too, and play Kurt and Blyashov. But right now Rubin's leadership is needed on the court.

Hambly will play Kurt one game then Blyaskov the next like today. He wants to be able to sub when it’s really important and have that sub ready to play
