I don't understand how McGuire still has a job. He's in his 19th year and his record is not great. He continues to bring in top recruits over the years and they never improve. With his lack of wins, poor development, and complaints of abuse by former players I don't know what the Cal administration is thinking.

I’ll post videos of the goals later, but I will say that these were good goals. Some really nice builds and passing and some deadly shots.
Also, congrats to the women who clinched at least a share of theACC regular season championship.

I confess to being on the road for work with a terrible hotel internet connection. Long and short, I have managed 8 minutes; so for me it’s still 1:0. Ugh.
Not sure I have ever heard of 8 goals on 10 shots on goal before as a side note.

This stadium is Cal's Track and Field Stadium, which located adjacent to their Baseball Stadium near the Basketball facility at the southwestern edge of campus.

I was at the game.
At first I sat up with the sizable Stanford contingency.
But there are several small canopy tents blocking much of the view.
So I walked down and watched the game from numerous locations around the pitch.
I learned more about the game of soccer in 45 minutes than I have in a lifetime.

4 first teamers! And it's amazing for Birkel to win GK of the year. That was expected to be a position of weakness for us. If they had an assistant coach of the year award it should go to Paul Hart, Stanford's goalkeeper coach (who should have won it the past 2 years as well). I'm a little surprised Teagan Wy didn't even make 3rd team GK. I suppose Stanford's offensive explosion against Cal in the final game didn't help, but those goals were not Teagan's fault.
I'm really happy for Y-Lan. She does not look like a frosh out there. She's so skilled in keeping possession. But I'm a little disappointed not to see Lily Freer on the all-frosh team too. Stanford's season might have looked very different if Freer weren't able to step up as she has.
P.S. The Stanford Women's Soccer Instagram account posted a picture of Montoya practicing in WakeMed Soccer Park. No brace and very much an action shot. Perhaps we'll see her on the pitch tomorrow.

Freer should have been on the Frosh team but defenders always get shafted. Though weird like of midfielders this year. Nguyen played enough to be a legitimate selection. And Y-Lan’s minutes have gone up as the season has gone on and injuries have opened up more playing time.
I do admit to being puzzled by GK of the year though. Not that Birkel has been bad, but she has 23 saves. For the whole season. And her save percentage was just an ok but not great .6997. By contrast Wy for Kal - who I think won it last year - has 81 saves and a .794 save percentage even after the Stanford debacle. For me Birkel didn’t have enough to do this year to win it. But hey I am sure she will take it.
