In other news, Uncle Julio is down by the UT schoolyard this weekend...

UT-UM-LSJU making for a fascinating triangle of intrigue these past few days

Re: Class of 2016 - donkey687 - 01-23-2016

Not sure, why we are being secretive about the fact that the Texas Center grad transfer All Big 12 Academic team who has 2 years eligibility left and was an elite high school recruit with interest in Stanford (Jake Raulerson who has a State Farm related twitter handle) is following some people with Stanford connections. He visited Michigan last weekend. There hasn't been stated interest from him in evaluating Stanford but there are some bread crumb clues that he may have interest. With Shuler retiring from football, we have an opening on the OL at Center. This doesn't seem like a secret stealth that we need to speak in code about.  This is a guy that should have Stanford interest that we could use.

Re: Class of 2016 - yvonne - 01-23-2016

It's more about the other guy, who is committed to Michigan.

Re: Class of 2016 - Red State - 01-23-2016

New Commit is WR Paxton Segina, a 2 star prospect with offers from Rice and Air Force.

This is out of the blue.  Walk on?  Hidden gem?  Plan B?

Not out of the blue if you read reports on Stanford's camp.
Not a walk on.
Obviously Plan B, but hopefully a hidden gem as well.

He's tweeted a lot of pics of himself in Texas gear, but he hasn't followed any Texas players or coaches.

Does this mean we screwed up with Shofi?

Harrington is from Greenwich, CT and has been a BC commit for nearly a year.  Is it a coincidence that he flipped to Stanford in the wake of one of the worst snowstorms in tri-state history?

Who was the last Stanford football player from CT?  Adam Salina?

Re: Class of 2016 - DC - 01-24-2016

I've been in the epicenter of the storm, and it really wasn't that bad.  Up in Connecticut, it likely was even more mild.

The coaching staff chose not to offer him.

Wait, this guy is an Under Armor All-American and he's only a 3 star recruit?

Connecticut formed the northern border of the storm with snowfalls trailing off drastically as you moved north. It was as sharp a gradient in snow fall as I've ever seen.

New York City got up to 30 inches (they're calling it second biggest snow ever)
Greenwich got 16 inches.
I got 4+ inches.
My local ski hill got 1 inch.
Northwest CT got nothing.

Re: Class of 2016 - OutsiderFan - 01-25-2016

Think I got about 4-5 inches in West Hartford.

4 stars on ESPN, though yes, 3 stars on the other services (and I tend to discount ESPN's recruiting rankings anyway).  I expect weaker HS competition has impacted his recruiting grade.

And maybe there's an argument that ESPN, being based in CT, might actually have an edge on evaluating CT talent?  If so, it's probably the only state where they'd have an edge over the other services.  That's total conjecture, though.  I'm not enough of a recruitnik to split hairs so finely.

In any event, holy mackerel, he is one heck of a "Plan B" option.  Shaw and the other coaches convinced this kid, a BC commit from a BC family, to take more AP classes and keep pushing for a better test score, all on the possibility that an offer might be coming down the line.  It's this particular type of sales job that might amaze me most about the difficulties our coaching staff faces in recruiting.  Really, really impressive to convince not just the Plan A guys to come here, but to convince a decent cohort of quality backup options to go through admissions on the hope that some of them get in and are options if Plan A guys get dinged or otherwise decide to go elsewhere.  Along with Eboh, that's two 4-star guys (at least on one or more services) that we convinced to prepare for--and run--the admissions gauntlet without the promise of an offer, and now it looks like we might get both of them.
