I see that she did a handful of TV roles in the early/mid sixties, but not a single film role between the two nominations. Nominated for a third Oscar in 1987, still alive (about to turn 90) and working sporadically.

That's a fantastic guess; she was nominated for Wait Until Dark in 1968, got married and didn't work again for almost a decade, but wasn't nominated for any subsequent roles. She was posthumously awarded an Oscar in 1993 for her humanitarian efforts.

McGraw managed a long time but didn't play very much for the Giants, the bulk of his playing career was with Baltimore.

Great answers, Phogge, and good comments, DC.  To your post:

SF Giants: You got all five of them.  Mays, McCovey, Marichal, Cepeda, Gaylord Perry.

New York Giants, you got 11 of them: George Kelly, Freddie Lindstrom, Travis Jackson, Bill Terry, Mel Ott, King Carl Hubbell, Big Six Christy Mathewson, Roger Bresnahan, Iron Joe MGinnity, Ross Youngs, Rube Marquard.

McGraw is in as a manager.

Mize and Frisch went in as Cardinals.  Lombardi went in as a Red.

Monte Irwin and Jeff Tesreau aren't in the Hall, neither is Chief Meyers...you may be thinking of Chief Bender, who is in the HoF.

The other Giants in the Hall of Fame are Buck Ewing, Jim O'Rourke, Tim Keefe, John Montgomery Ward, Mickey Welch, Roger Connor, George Davis and Amos Rusie.  Great work -- the only ones you missed played between 1880 and 1909.

BTW, there are eight players who played for the San Francisco Giants in the HoF and 20 players who played for the New York Giants who are in the HoF, but list other teams as their primary teams.  You already know the first three: Frankie Frisch, Johnny Mize and Ernie Lombardi.  There are also five other Hall of Famers who either played for the Giants but were inducted as managers for other teams or managed the Giants and were inducted as players for other teams.

33 other Giants in the Hall.  Care to hazard a guess?

Monte Irvin is most definitely in the Hall of Fame. A great Negro Leaguer who finally was allowed to play in MLB at age 30 and played eight seasons (seven with the Giants), receiving MVP votes in three of those seasons, including a third place finish in 1951 when he led the National League in RBI while hitting 312/415/514. He hit cleanup in the famous "Giants win the pennant" game; Bobby Thomson batted sixth that day and Willie Mays hit seventh.

He was voted into the HoF primarily for his Negro League accomplishments so perhaps doesn't qualify as a Giants Hall of Famer per se, but he was a great player. His #20 is retired and is visible up in the left field stands at Oracle Park between Carl Hubbell and Will Clark.

Maybe I was thinking of the noted ballplayer/croc wrestler Monte Irwin. I’m still a better speller than Bobbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb.

Frisch is wearing a Cardinal cap on the HOF plaque. He had played for years with the HOF infield of Lindstrom, Jackson and Kelly for the Giants. Perhaps he had a problem with the Stoneham family.

Frisch played 11 seasons with the Cardinals, 8 seasons with the Giants.

He was a better player overall for the Giants but he played 1,000 games for them vs 1,311 games for the Cardinals, and his only MVP season (in 1931) was while he was with St. Louis. (He also had a runner up MVP season for StL and a third place MVP season for NY.) He also managed St. Louis for six seasons (never managed the Giants.) So it seems reasonable that he's depicted wearing a Cardinals cap on his plaque.

Mize played 5 years for the Giants, 5 years for the Yankees at the end of his career and 6 years for the Cardinals. They were close in numbers, and Mize actually made more all star teams as a Giant, but I think the Cardinal uniform was the right one for him.

At an old timers game back in the 80's we interviewed Mize and Allie Reynolds. Mize was a mountain of a man. Still impressive in his 60's in the cage. Reynolds was my favorite pitcher as a young kid. The ultimate winner. Should be in the Hall.
