Wouldn't be surprised if the lecture that Montag gave Stewart about how hard the school is, and the fact that Shaw told him to keep his grades up is working on his mind. I believe Shaw majored in sociology, so he should convey to Stewart that the academics can be fit to his comfort level.

--- Based on this article, it honestly sounds like Stanford is still his #1. He's not declaring yet because he's waiting on the SAT score, and if he gets it, he's going to OV to Stanford, and decide after that.Â

This is shaping up to be a really interesting close to the recruiting cycle. As has been repeatedly noted, it is pretty rare for someone who has visited and been admitted to choose elsewhere. Yet in this cycle there are by my count at least 4 guys (maybe 6) who, although reportedly admitted (and having visited), seem like coin flips at this point. It would be strange to have such a number of real misses following the success of 2015, but perhaps just coincidental. Here's hoping we get all of them.    Â

Stewart, McCullough, and Herbig I can see potentially fitting this category of visited, admitted and signed elsewhere.Â
Eboh is a Stanford lock at this point and there aren't any other potential de-commits of admits I know about.

Indeed true. In fact, before I edited to try to make my comment a little more concise, I had a line stating the same.
I dropped the line because it's pretty much irrelevant as to whether Stewart is likely to be swayed by a warning that Harbaugh will over-recruit him in the future:
Stewart also doesn't know where he stands in Harbaugh's "true" pecking order.
If over-recruiting and general place on the depth chart were a concern then you wouldn't go to a team that doesn't use so many WRs and has landed four that are generally rated above you in your own class and two the year before.

I may be in the minority, but I don't think this is relevant at all. My impression is that Shaw is looking for competitors--people that are comfortable with their abilities both on-field and in the classroom (and Stewart certainly seems comfortable with his on-field abilities judging by the # of WR commits at UM). This battle really boils down to whether Stewart wants to attend a school where he feels comfortable (i.e., his friends will be playing there, his former coach is there) versus a school where he can challenge himself and grow. If the bottom line is that he'd like to go to college with his high school friends and play with his high school coach then there's not much that Stanford has to offer.

I agree with you. Stewart just doesn't seem comfortable with the challenges Stanford is going to present. Shaw is going to have to do some very fast talking to get him out of that mindset.

Someone needs to make Stewart see that the kinds of guys willing to take on the Stanford challenge are in fact what allows Stanford to win Pac-12 titles. And that proving ground also has the added benefit of a valuable degree. I guess in this case it comes down to what Stewart wants to do outside of football, and the degree to which each program can prepare him for that the best in his own mind. The challenge Stanford has in this regard is few kids are like Josh Garnett or Frank Buncom; know exactly what they wanted to do post-football, and knew Stanford was the best place to prepare them for it.

Michigan picks up another WR recruit Eddie McDoom. Flipped him from the Ducks. Per my "sources" at Michigan, they think Stewart would make it only 3-4 WR's in their class as they expect the others listed at WR may switch to safety.
