Im disgusted. They played a great third quarter. Than he goes to super turtle mode. I have always supported Shaw when he goes conservative in the fourth quarter because he’s had a team that runs the ball and plays defense. This was a good defensive game but they still can’t run the ball and he played not to lose. This is a team he needs to play to win with. Because it’s best when it’s throwing the football. That’s the strength of this football team. I’m not quite sure if he’ll ever figure that out

That was far too close. I am so pissed off at the way the 4th quarter was managed, a couple more good throws from that ASU QB and we're in overtime right now.

Whew!
Glad Shaw trusted Costello just enough (as it turned out) on that last Stanford drive. That doesn't excuse the earlier turtling...but we all will take the victory, won't we?
Arizona State did not look especially well coached to me. That was some poor time management at the end. OTOH, if some Wilkins passes had been on target...I don't want to think about it.

Except Shaw knows the QB we are facing. Wilkins is not Herbert. ASU fans have been livid with him for a while. Do I think Shaw should have thrown on 2nd or 3rd down on the second to last drive? Yes. But he played the odds, leaned on his D, and ensured we didn't give it away with a turnover or a pick-six (which we just had last game, and we all know how that changed the complexion of the game).

Oh no!
Shaw lost a point on post game interview.
Said "we played like crap" on TV.
Strike one

Time management was on Wilkins, rather than Herm. Don't know why a fifth year senior is dumping it off underneath with 12 seconds. Herm looked stunned on the sidelines. I actually think ASU has been better than I originally expected coming into this year. Don't think they will make a bowl, but Herm has been better than either Sumlin or Chip.

fun third quarter, but man that was some goofball coaching in the fourth.

We still only played well for a fraction of the game. During that 3rd quarter I thought they had found it. Run/pass mix was great, we had them huffing and we were in control. Then we just handed control and momentum over to them.

Goofball coaching, where the odds of us winning were never below 83%. If you want goofball coaching, look at how Cristobal gave away the game to us. Or how Petersen gave away the UW-Oregon game.
I don't care about style points. I care about decisions that ensure W's, and not making monumental mistakes that can jeopardize them, particularly on the road.

Costello was 22/29 with 1 TD and 0 INT

That's ridiculous. Wilkins
can make those throws. The fact that he only does it half the time (or whatever) is no excuse for throwing up your hands and saying "eh I like our odds on defense". Costello's completion percentage was, what, 75%? Throw a quick ball to JJ and let him do some damage! Or to Irwin! Or try something with one of the fast youngsters! Hell even a tunnel screen to Speights! Just SOMETHING besides "we know we can't gain 10 yards in 3 telegraphed runs but we're gonna try anyway!" It would sort of be excusable on that last drive if he hadn't done twice just before that.
How many first downs did we have in the fourth quarter? One? It's completely inexcusable. That was godawful, stupid, "playing to not lose" coaching and I expect better from Shaw. I think I'm more pissed off with this win than the loss to Utah, because at least in that game it was fluky turnovers that killed us, something you don't expect to happen again. But this asinine conservatism could certainly happen again and I honestly thought we were passed it.

That was awful. Shaw has no clue how to run an offense and almost proved it by giving away the game. I just can't support him any more.

Yeah, we won the game and I'll take it, but I sure didn't like us trying to sit on the lead in the fourth quarter.

Very large diff between 5-2 and 4-3 for Cardinal on a three game schneid.
But, we face two better teams now.
- Minchew is much better passer than Browning, but Huskies Defense is much better.
Sure, we can win the North if we win out. Or we could slink to 5-4, and then struggle home in Nov.
Clearly we missed Herbig -- Big Time. If he is back for WAST, then that would be CRITICAL.
Love is... OUT, unfortunately.
43 rushes for just 127yds.
We only threw it 29 times and bagged for 231yds on 22 catches.
We get the extra time to heal for WAST.
MVP for me is Adebo, mostly shutting down their play-makers: Harry and Darby.
N.Harry did not score. That was the diff with the 3 TOs.

KJ with his best single-game completion percentage on the year, at 75.9 percent. The playcalling helped him out with that at least somewhat, with more quick throws than we've seen earlier in the year and those couple of gorgeous screen calls. Statistically, a really, really good game.
