What a tease. Nine teams. I think some of these kids just enjoy getting a lot of attention and want to see who will slobber all over them the most. Do we really think those nine teams all have an equal chance. I doubt it. Might as well at least name top 3.

She's about a year away from being in a position to make a decision (although she could always announce some time earlier).  I don't see anything wrong with (and in fact, I would have encouraged her to) keeping a fairly broad list at this point in the process, and to me, two plus years before she would be enrolling, nine schools is a perfectly acceptable number.  At the same time, this allows her to (politely) tell all other programs to stop sending her stuff.

I'm sure internally she might have an informal pecking order, but I don't see the harm with her keeping a larger list of options at this time.

Betts is the # 1 player in the country. Everyone wants her.

Seriously. I've seen "Top 25" lists for recruits that are barely in the Top 25. A 6'7" rising junior with moves like hers is worthy of a Top 9.

I've been wondering how Cam's game has been progressing since we last saw here and I like what I see, especially the fluidity and length. Too bad there is not any more muscle to help her in the low post. As for Jana, I could not keep my eyes off of her game. Lots to like from that short clip. I think some of us may have lost track of her development since she signed with us so early, but she can do everything and has me excited about the future -- excited enough to hunt down some videos to see more of her in action. I'm a fan.

Below is a local feature on Jana and her family. You gotta love mom's enthusiasm and her whistling skills.

don't most kids these days apply to about 9 colleges?

Agree almost always even maybe always the November signing week is when we sign the class.

Didn't Haley Jones sign a couple of weeks late? So almost always.

well that's an interesting example. let's see..my memory is that there was an emergency - maybe local fires? i believe i recall that she signed on time, but couldn't hold her announcement ceremony til the next week because her school was closed.

and i found a link

RE: NEW, June 16 Women's Basketball Recruiting - CompSci87 - 07-31-2020

I remember that now. It was complicated. The timing was such that Stanford actually issued the initial press release about the signing class before Haley announced, so it didn't include her.

The Rivals story on recruiting. Approved for release

https://www.stanfordfbc.org/

See Stories of the season.

Plus my first preview coming next week. But this one far better

On my computer, the story is behind the pay wall. Frustrating

Same. I suppose we will just have to wait and see. But the good news is it's a fourth recruit for 2021, so presumably the possible Xmas present was not Betts's Top 9 list.

RE: NEW, June 16 Women's Basketball Recruiting - BostonCard - 08-01-2020

Bobk  has confirmed that the Christmas present was supposed to have been Iriafen.  Reading between the lines, she’s still the present; the gift just may come some times after “Christmas”.

RE: NEW, June 16 Women's Basketball Recruiting - BobK - 08-01-2020

Well I’m sorry. I saw it on the FBC site
Read it and yes I’m on Rivals. Why it’s on the site I’ll find out. So sorry about that

Yes it’s Kiki Iriafen. And we wait for Christmas whenever that may be

RE: NEW, June 16 Women's Basketball Recruiting - CompSci87 - 08-01-2020

Bob was trying not to reveal what's behind the paywall. To avoid implying the info about Iriafen is more definite than what it is: Jacob Rayburn of the Stanford Rivals site said in a July 22 recruiting summary post that he expects Iriafen to choose Stanford. He didn't say why he thinks so. Let's hope he's right!

There's some other good stuff in Jacob's summary too.

RE: NEW, June 16 Women's Basketball Recruiting - BostonCard - 08-01-2020

Sorry, probably should have said “bob has hinted” rather than “bob has confirmed”.  And I meant he did so on this thread, not in the Rivals article.
