We were the overall 9th seed. Does anyone know how the super regional hosting works? Would we get to host if we advance and Texas Tech (8th seed) doesn’t?

Yes, Stanford would host the super-regional if it holds home field and someone other than Texas Tech comes out of Lubbock.
Nobody in our regional should be slept on. UC Irvine has a little bit of a pedigreed history, they tore though the Corvallis regional in 2014 when Oregon State was the #1 overall seed, then went to Oklahoma State for their super-regional on the road and advanced to Omaha. Nevada has at least one hitter who can mash like a vibe, as Sublime would say. And even newcomer North Dakota State, their successes in football and men's basketball are indicators of a good overall athletic program.

How does what a college team did in 2014 have anything to do with that school's 2021 squad?

Of our regional opponents, Irvine plays in easily the best conference (Big West).
BA 0.293, SLG 0.436, ERA 3.83
They won the Big West by 3 games. They are the only team in the regional with an ERA under 4. Hits for decent average but only moderate power.
They went 7-6 against the Pac 12 (3-0 vs UW, 1-2 vs UCLA, 1-3 vs Stanford, 2-1 vs OSU). Baseball America ranks them #15.
Nevada is a big hitting team, but plays at altitude. BA 0.321, SLG 0.535, ERA 5.43
Dillan Shrum hits with BA 0.479, SLG 0.992, 15 HR in 33 games.
North Dakota State has BA 0.277, SLG 0.384, ERA 4.71.
Only big conference team they played was Kansas (RPI #64) and took 2 of 3.
Stanford has team BA 0.276, SLG 0.443, ERA 4.64.

I saw UCI sweep a doubleheader from UCSB last month. The Anteaters are the real deal. Will be interesting to see the pitching rotation because I expect that Esquer will save Beck for UCI.

As I mentioned in the Baseball All Conference thread, I would personally advocate holding back Beck until game 2 but I don't think Esquer will do so.
That just doesn't seem to be Esquer's, or Stanford's, way.
In 2018 Esquer sent Friday starter Tristan Beck out in game #1, a win over Wright State.
In 2019 Esquer sent Friday starter Brendan Beck out in game #1, a win over Sacramento State.
Possibly not relevant, but Marquess always went with his ace in game #1 as well, though I have a vague memory that maybe once he held the top pitcher until game #2.
This year is a little different in that I think there is a larger gap between our #1 starter and the next guy than usual, but nonetheless I expect to see Beck today. One benefit is that if the series goes to 5 games, Beck could potentially come back to pitch a few innings as he did in game 5 in 2019. (Beck pitched 3.1 perfect innings in that game 5 vs Fresno)

It looks like Beck will be saved for tomorrow. As others have pointed out, this is a deviation from previous years but one I am happy to support before the fact, knowing the drastic ramifications of it backfiring. While I expect a battle from a pesky NDSU squad, I think this move makes the most sense all things considered. Williams had a tremendous complete game during the third game of the 2019 regional which gave the bullpen some much needed rest. Hopefully a similar performance is in store this afternoon.

I agree that I think it is a good move under the situation we face right now.
I will try not to whine about that decision if it backfires.
I feel that Williams hasn't yet fully returned to his pre-injury form, but hopefully is approaching that and will take another step today.

Nevada's first baseman Shrum leads the country in hitting by both avg and slugging. The first three times he came to bat, the UCI pitcher plunked him. The third time, the umpire escorted Shrum to first base, but never appeared to consider throwing out the pitcher or coach.

They ended up not scoring though!!! Just joking. Ball was flying out of the yard yesterday, it was baking at the yard. Night game is going to have be played a little different.
If the stars align and everything works out. 2 Stanford players from that '87 NC team will be coaching in a super regional and possibly in Omaha. Tolf (How he was known here on the farm), or Mark Machtolf had has his Zags rolling against LSU last night. Gonzaga had 4 games scheduled this year, but only played one of them and lost 10-3. Go Zags!!!!!

Current UCI head coach Ben Orloff first joined their coaching staff as an assistant for the 2014 season. He might have had some good ingredients to add to the recipe.
More relevant to this season, their pitching took on a fearsome Nevada lineup and shut them down. Then again, North Dakota State's pitching also shut Nevada's hitting down, so......

3 errors a walk and grand slam by Huff and it’s 7-0 Stanford still in the second inning
