RE: Class of 2024 - needle - 06-30-2023

This is a shockingly high number of commitments given the date.

No other college has as many commitments as Stanford, per On3.

What is the likelihood that some of these commits might be denied admission? Is it higher than in past years following the public announcement of a commitment?

RE: Class of 2024 - Maple Leaf - 06-30-2023

per 247 Stanford has 27 commits.  What is the current maximum number of scholarships allowed in the first year for schools with a new head coach?

The 25-scholarship limit was waived for the 2023 and 2024 classes. We will see many classes breaking that limit. However, a school must still remain at or below 85 total at any given time.

(There is no "special rule" for first year coaches.)

RE: Class of 2024 - BobK - 06-30-2023

No number this year. Maybe next year. Now just the 85 max.
Of course the big question will be admissions. How many have taken of the still needed 2 AP classes ? And so on.
But it’s a heck of a start. And quite possibly Gracia and Umeh to come

Umeh is supposed to announce on the 8th. 247 Sports has him 100% for Stanford.
Garcia used to be 100% for Utah. Now 247 Sports has him 50% for Stanford.
Interesting.

RE: Class of 2024 - Langdude - 06-30-2023

Did they waive the 25 recruit limit because of the larger-than-normal graduating classes of players still on scholarship due to 2020 not counting?

I remember Harb’s first year only getting four wins, but the change in competitiveness, drive, and style was noticeable. Football was exciting again. Hoping for the same here.

RE: Class of 2024 - BobK - 06-30-2023

The 50% Utah was from mid April. The 50% Stanford is new

RE: Class of 2024 - Langdude - 07-08-2023

Incredible recruiting recovery by Taylor, a new guy managing a new program with a new staff after multiple dysfunctional seasons.

I hope that we do not lose (m)any through defections via NIL offers from bigger programs when and if some of these dudes have significant senior seasons. The pessimist in me suggests that might happen.

Having said that, this is all immensely encouraging. With Garcia still to announce, 28 commits.

Mike

our defensive line gets a little stronger.
so far.....so good.

RE: Class of 2024 - AlbanyCardinal - 07-08-2023

Yes, I think it will happen to some extent, and others will surely get dinged by admission, but however it plays out, I take solace from knowing that Shaw's micro-classes are a thing of the past.

Thanks for sharing. Good stuff on Umeh and his commitment here: https://www.on3.com/college/stanford-cardinal/news/benedict-umeh-4-star-dl-commits-to-stanford-cardinal/

I guess it's a good thing Taylor gave Umeh and others an official visit in June, eh?

Few things about Shaw bothered me more than his refusal to immediately adapt to official visits in Summer before Senior season.

RE: Class of 2024 - washingtonismoney - 07-11-2023

FWIW, been a recent mini-run of crystal balls predicting Stanford for 4-star OT Isaiah Garcia out of Utah.

Has he said when he plans to announce? Anyone know?

RE: Class of 2024 - MVDan - 07-11-2023

Supposedly, Garcia is said to be looking for the best NIL deal. But based on the CBs being dropped on various recruiting websites I’m not so sure. If that was the case Stanford would more than likely be out of the running. I haven’t seen any deadline for him to decide stated.

This was said by one person on a very flimsy basis and seems untrue.
