RE: Stanford Baseball 2023 - Madera86 - 04-08-2023

Hinkelman with the 3-run homer! Stanford goes ahead in the top of the ninth, 5-3.

It's all up to Bruno, now. Go Cardinal!

Bruno walked one and got an out. Now up to Pancer.

Pancer walked another and had to face the guy who went yard against him a couple nights ago, but…F6!

How sweep it is!

I’m convinced. This team has the right stuff.

RE: Stanford Baseball 2023 - JJJ - 04-08-2023

The team has a lot of heart. Not as sure about the arms. I would’ve been okay with Scott as closer, or Bruno/Scott combo as closer, but then who starts… Hope it works itself out as the season progresses!

RE: Stanford Baseball 2023 - Madera86 - 04-09-2023

I like our odds of winning if our Sunday pitchers are only giving up 3 runs every weekend. Bruno still gave up 4 walks in 2.1 innings. but at least he kept anyone from scoring. Hope he can build on this.

Once we get to post season play, we will go as far as our pitching will take us.  We won back to back CWS titles on the backs of 7 or 8 guys who went on to play in the majors and a pitching staff who posted sub 3.0 ERA for the CWS finals.  We have some outstanding players now, but I don't think we have pitchers who can match the starters of those CWS winning teams.  We can't expect our hitters to consistently pull games out of the fire in the postseason.  Maybe a game or two, but the post season for college baseball is probably the most difficult post season championship in any sport.  I think you have to have at least two very good starters and a really good closer to have a chance of getting it done.  Scott and Quinn might be the starters we need, but I don't see a closer we can rely on. I hope I am wrong.

Bruno could be that closer, if he would stop trying to throw the ball through the backstop! If he would use a little finesse rather than all power, he can be a good closer. I think he took a good first step when he came in on Saturday night. Eager needs to help him build on that and move forward, as his arm will be needed come regionals.

If Bruno threw 90-91 would he get hit more at the expense of less walks ?

Texas Tech games - Caseyalper - 04-10-2023

Does anyone know who will be starting the two games against Texas tech this week?

spike - Spike - 04-10-2023

Uber and Duggan and a day of rain

RE: Stanford Baseball 2023 - JJJ - 04-10-2023

In case you needed a reminder (like me).

Stanford moves up one spot to #8. The center of gravity of collegiate baseball is very far from the P12 (kind of like college football).

SEC has won 8 of the last 13 national championships in baseball and finished runner up 7 more times in that span. That's not all East Coast bias. (unless you were being sarcastic in your comment which is hard to tell online)

East coast umpire bias.  (See Brandon Cooper)

Update on Mr. Cooper

Re Texas Tech game, looks to me like the umpire is squeezing Duggan.  Thoughts? Frosh hazing?q

Edit: I was wrong.  He's just not very good on balls and strikes.

They have Cole Hinkelman - and right now that's a very good thing!  Another home run - 3 run bomb in the 2nd to pull within a run after a tough inning for Duggan.

Duggan now has 6ks in 3 innings though.

"The right stuff" means previously unheralded players step up.  Rios, Cobb, now Hinkelman.

RE: Stanford Baseball 2023 - JJJ - 04-10-2023

Bruno looking better today. Pumping in 94mph strikes repeatedly striking out the side (1BB). 6-4 middle of 8th.
