3* ILB currently committed to UVA. In general I do wonder how many guys we're gonna flip this cycle. My guess is COVID is causing a lot of earlier commitments than usual.

The bigger question is probably if a retest is needed. You will see that many have been accepted since the end of February with my next post
ACT is scheduled for July. SAT is not until the end of August

Tyler McLaurin is a high-3* ILB committed to Michigan with a 4.2 GPA. Our last 3 offers have gone out to LBs committed elsewhere.

A Left Coast kid with a 4.0 GPA turns us down because he wants to play in the NFL and he's afraid that if he goes to Stanford he won't be able to?

I'm not so sure I would be blaming Stanford here. I mean is Stanford the right place for a kid who only is thinking of the NFL? I think he chose the right place in Oklahoma. David Shaw himself will say he wants kids who want to play in the NFL AND want to get a Stanford education.
Even if considering RS Soph early entries, those guys still have 2+ years of Stanford and can finish their degrees after going pro.

I don't think this kid was only thinking of the NFL (after all he is supposedly a 4.0 student), but he definitely wanted to get there.
As is going to be true with most of the top recruits we pursue.
If we can't convince them they have just as good a chance at Stanford as they would somewhere else we have got problems.
At least IMO.

There are some very good college choices out there. He also could pull a Milburn and get out of Norman but Stanford doesn't take transfers.
Stanford is a superb pick for a kid but not for everybody. That is why Oklahoma has been a power going back to the 40's.
Shaw is correct but that doesn't make it any easier for Stanford fans. I watched a replay of a Penn St/Michigan game the other night. Over 100,000 crazies waving pom poms in Happy Valley, all of whom are wearing white shirts. Most highly rated recruits want to play in that atmosphere rather than in front of a laid back crowd in a 50,000 seat stadium half filled. It's amazing what Harballs and Shaw have done in a little more than a decade with all the constraints in Palo Alto.

Stanford does take transfer. But few. As the athlete transfers we have two mvb. Athlete transfers are very rare
Grad transfers not so rare 4 so far ?

It's too bad Malala isn't applying this year. She could have gotten into Stanford, which is where she supposedly wanted to go, but refused to take the SAT.

Any recruit who wants to play in Oklahoma, with a Supreme Court allowing a Virus Spreading Death Cult event in a raging pandemic to not follow any CDC guidelines, is not a recruit with the judgment to be at Stanford. Tulsa County has the largest Covid-19 outbreak in the state and has a 140% case increase in the last week, but the elected fools in the state don't want to protect their citizens. Just recklessly idiotic. How anyone would want to go to college in Oklahoma in the wake of this is beyond my comprehension.

Fair enough. It was still the Oklahoma Supreme Court that said no protections for the citizens are necessary. I can't even believe I can type that with it being the actual truth. SMH. CA hasn't had a gathering greater than a 100 people allowed since March, and Oklahoma says, let's bring more than 100x that many together with zero protections. Just unreal. I know this should be on Covid board, but it does highlight the poor judgment to attend Oklahoma instead of Stanford, IMO.

Maybe not specific to Nathan R-K but the standardized test waiving should lead to multiple flips.
OF, another one of our offered CA targets will also likely commit to Oklahoma. They are a yearly playoff-caliber team with excellent coaching, including bane of Shaw's existence Alex Grinch (formerly of Wazzu) at DC, and have had 4+ players drafted every year since 2007. Stanford is...not that.
RB LJ Johnson's top 5 - we offered early and he did multiple interviews citing academics as a high priority - was perennial academic powerhouses Texas A&M, LSU, Auburn, Georgia, and, again, Oklahoma. (He's probably headed to TAMU FWIW.) This kind of thing happens shockingly more often than you'd think.
We have the highest yield rate in the nation in terms of commits to offers. And yet we still miss on 3/4 of our offers, including whales with 4.0s and AP classes, for one reason or another. It happens. Meanwhile, Tennessee has over 8x the number of offers out for '21 (491 to our 59) as we do. I have no idea how they keep track!
