I know nothing of Olsen.

Hence the rejoinder that "that can be out of date."

Really good, but that reputation was not built on libero or even DS play. I have full faith that the staff can identify players likely to excel at libero, but I suspect there will be a learning curve.

I was thinking of Kipp as the tournament wound down. One of the benefits of getting (and keeping) her on the court this season would have been to avoid the perception that she's replacing KP, far too tall a task for any talent. Because McClure took back the front row play of Kipp, I could see how this dynamic will be in play next year. I hope Kipp doesn't feel the pressure to fill those shoes and just plays her own game.
I'm sure Kipp will benefit from her early season experience getting a lot of playing time, so at least we'll return 3 really solid contributors in McClure, Kipp and Campbell. The biggest questions are setter and libero from what I can tell.

The absence of Hentz will be glaring. We may never see a libero that good again.

Is there a video compilation of Hentz’ most spectacular digs? Would love to see one!

Hentz covered half or more of the back row. That will be the biggest problem to replace. Ogilive lots of back row experience and like Hentz an outside hitter in HS.
Health at setter the big problem

Next year we bring in 2 outstanding middles and an outstanding Libero.
Plus a walk-in setter and DS
2021 we are the favorite for a top setter and top front row player. Both could be top 10 players
M Keefe returns for a 5th year so 12 on scholarship
Gates isn't on scholarship?? How is that even possible? She's paying her own way? That's madness.
The team didn't have an unused scholarship open for her. She graduated from UCLA in three years, applied to grad schools as a regular student, got admitted, and only then contacted Hambly about joining the team. But even if it had been planned earlier, there wouldn't have been an extra one. Volleyball has 12 scholarships, and there were already 16 players on the roster before Gates joined.
If this were football, this is the kind of thing that would get whatever academic/need-based aid she got treated as a scholarship for counting purposes, given how important she was to the team. I'll bow to reality, of course, but I remain agog that a player of that caliber paid her own way at Stanford. What a unique and special kid.

Like Shoji on the men’s side. Generational players both. Kind of amazing they were both Stanford athletes.

We are losing 3 players who are the best in the nation at their position, 1 who is arguably the best, and 1 who apparently just set a record for kill efficiency in the NCAA tournament. Based on that, next year should be the rebuilding year of all rebuilding years. Of course we have hopes of reloading rather than rebuilding, but expectations have to be realistic. We will have a lot of players with great potential but little or no college experience, and no experience playing as a team with each other. We are going to be improving a lot as the season progresses. As others have said, let's enjoy watching the process and the progress!
