Gambling on baseball is obviously disallowed, but there is no "testing" for gambling.  Doesn't mean MLB doesn't care, as Pete Rose can attest.

MLB celebrated and promoted the home rune race by McGwire and Sosa in 1998 and EVERYONE knew they were juicing.  Bonds, a much greater talent, watched that foolishness and decided to join MLBs party.  MLB welcomed him and profited nicely off of it.  Their testing program began in 2003 but was very limited in the early years because MLB didn't really want to catch anyone.  The gambling analogy is apt.  MLB treated steroid use the way Louis enforced gambling at Rick's in Casablanca.  "I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here."  "Your winnings, Sir."  "Oh, thank you very much."

I don't like Clemens or Bonds based on their personalities, but the steroid era players with clear HOF talent like Clemens and Bonds should be in.

I witnessed many moments when Bonds berated a photog, a writer, a team staffer.
I witnessed Clemens go out of his way to try to knockdown a still man.
I was berated by Kent even though I was nowhere near his "space."

For what it's worth some other antisocial ballplayers: John Tudor, Albert Belle, Gary Gaetti, Johnny Antonelli.

To me it wasn't just business, it was personal. I hope they never get in. You really don't have to act like an ogre. Unless you are the extra Stanford lineman.

Yeah.  Great, great career, 193-111 (almost HoF) now 36 years old, skills have declined precipitously.  Perfect for Sabean.  

Lester actually turned down a bigger offer from the Giants to join the Cubs in 2014.  He's gone 76-44 ever since.

Glad Giants non-tendered Anderson.  Well, I will be if they sign two potential mid to low rotation 
starters. They aren’t going to sign a top end guy.  Not this year. 22 maybe.

Also glad they re-signed Ruf.  He had  a whole lot of solid AB’s.  Professional hitter at this stage of his career. Platoon with Dickerson works well.  Plus he can DH if they reup.  Which, as much as I hate to say it, I think they should.

Picking up a left handed bat will be important.  David Dahl seems to be getting a big look. High risk, modest reward Injuries. Plus the Coors factor. Depends on the cost, of course.  He can play all three positions, albeit modestly.  And he’s hit - at least at Coors.  He can run.  But he doesn’t walk.  Which in today’s game is a major sin.  I mean now it’s - yeah he doesn’t hit much, but what great plate discipline.

I keep waiting for the organization that revamps it’s pitching philosophy.  Go after hitters. Consistently.  Don’t waste pitches when up in the count. Don’t be afraid to pitch to contact at times - especially lower end of the order guys. But wait, you say, they still hit 15 HRs. Fine. Do the math. Yes, you will give up HRs at times.  But if their solos, we don’t care.  You aren’t going to get beat by solo HRs. You walk people, you can enjoy your life in the minor leagues. Robin Roberts and Jim Palmer can explain..... (Well, Robin cantbas he’s gone. But you get my drift) And as for that “third time through the order bs” we are going to teach you to pitch.  That means you don’t come out trying to strike everyone out.  Unless you are Nolan Ryan and can give me 150 pitches and still throw gas. At 42. Smoltz explained that beautiful during WS. He never showed everything first time through.

Well Lex we certainly agree on hitting. Today swinging at a fast ball in the center of the plate a no no. Then they end up 2-2 swinging at the outside or inside if lefty breaking pitch for strike three
